Hey there,

What's with the extra, separate horn ground wire on my wiring harness? There is a set of two ground wires with a double bullet connector, but there is also a separate single ground wire with a male bullet connector. Is this just to give me a couple of options to reach my horn, or am I meant to ground the horn to the frame as well as the battery?

Thanks!

The horn sucks up a lot of electricity to operate and is prone to not working at all unless it has a very
good ground. The ground in the wiring harness is further affected by corroded bullet connectors to get
back to the battery. I ran a new ground from the horn to the frame at the Zener Diode. It certainly
wouldn't hurt to ground to the battery as well as the frame. It may be that the second set of ground wires
are for the Interpol police bike that had two horns.

The red ground/return wire connection to the horn should be a female spade connector. There isn't a horn 'frame' ground or any need for one but there are other red wires in the harness so where exactly are these extra wires?
Extra horn ground wire

Thanks Lazyeye6 and L.A.B.

On the harness there is a purple and black wire with a female bullet connector, as well as a pair of red ground wires that have a double female bullet connector on the same branch. Coming from the same branch of wires is another red ground wire with a male bullet connector. There are no other wires on this branch - in total 3 red wires (two together and one by itself) and one purple and black wire. These wires are all far too short to reach the horn so I've done up wires with male bullet connectors on one end and female spade connectors on the other so that I can reach the horn and connect to it. But I'm a little confused by this extra red wire as it's not shown on the diagram/instructions that came with the harness.

I've connected the purple and black wire at the other end of the harness to the purple and black wire that goes to the right handlebar and I get continuity between the female spade connector that I have setup to go on the horn and the negative battery lead with the main switch on and the horn button pressed.

Ah, it seems you don't have the 062087 'Horn link lead' (purple/black and red) section.

I can't explain the extra red. Possibly an Interpol equipment ground?

Thanks L.A.B. - since it sounds like this wire isn't for the equipment I have I'm going to just ignore it and carry on :).

I've got an update on that extra ground wire. I discovered this evening that it's actually the other end of the positive wire that goes to the accessory socket. Mystery solved :).

I had a feeling it was going to be that odd red wire.
