Electric cars 'pose environmental threat'

Not much horrifies me more than the thought of an electric motorcycle. But I am prepared to listen. What I love about my Norton, is that when I ride it I can feel the hair growing on my chest. And as soon as the motor starts, I am never going to crash again. The sound of the engine gives me immunity from death and destruction. An electric car would never make me feel the same as does the latest Mustang. There must be value in that.

Many people play computer games and never road-race a motorcycle. I don't believe they actually live their lives. One of my son' told ne that his computer game was 'just like the real thing'. I think if he tried to race a car or a bike, he'd crash within the first ten feet. Makes me wonder what the next generation but one, will be like.

A death knell for electrics?

Illinois lawmakers are proposing $1000 registration fees for total electric vehicles ....

Some time ago, on some thread on this Forum, I predicted lawmakers would suddenly become "less green" when they woke up and realized they were getting no, or less, fuel tax from electrics.

I grant that such a fee or tax is justified (at least equal to what an average gas powered user pays in fuel tax) to pay for road use, construction and repair, in lieu of gasoline tax, but the public can be turned off.

I remember back in the 80's the US Govt was encouraging automakers to offer more Diesel powered cars. GM offered the Diesel powered Olds, and there was talk of it being extended to the Caddilac. Ford was considering a model with Diesel.

Then the Govt increased the tax on Diesel 15 cents, making Diesel more expensive than gasoline, and the sales of the Diesel Olds dropped to nothingness, and the US Diesel car was dead.

the GM diesel was one of if not the biggest POS that GM ever foisted on the public. law suites were filed and resale on one was in the toilet with a diesel option. I claim that GM 's diesel killed the diesel market in the US no matter who made it. shops were doing conversions to an olds gas engine as it was the easy swap to keep the car on the road. and yes Cadillac did also get this POS in some of there line.
