Hi All,

I recently ordered and received a throttle body off ebay - I am sure a number of you will have seen (and purchased them). My intent is to use this set to block the balance pipe and possibly experiment with an IAC that runs with the cylinders isolated. Thanks firstly to all the people that have posted threads about this.

I've taken a number of photos and thought I'd share them, in case they were of assistance to anyone else.

If anyone would like some measurements etc taken, please let me know.

Thanks for posting Gojuu. I Believe they come with the insulator gasket. If you ( or anybody else) has one they’re not going to use I’d be willing to buy it off you. Jenvey won’t sell me one, and Norton, ….. who knows?

How do you intend blocking the passage?

It does come with the insulator gasket, but I don't have one so I'm going to use it.

@cliffa - If I have them scanned to a vector file you should be able to take that and get it laser cut (or something similar). Would that help? I currently have each side cover and rocker cover gaskets - so am doing those to keep for myself. I've done gaskets like that before and they turned out really good.

I've got some ideas about blocking it - but I haven't actually completely decided yet. I'm still at the staring at it stage lol.

If anyone has any thoughts on the green vs grey injectors - I'm all ears too.

Yep, I have one with exactly the same plans! I’m at exactly the same stage as you. Pick up, think, look, put down, repeat.:D

Thanks for the offer Gojuu, but I would have no idea were to get that done. I'm not in desperate need but I'm sure that bodies would be better off insulated.

Jenvey won’t sell me one......
It's one thing to gouge buyers on something that can't be acquired elsewhere, but a whole 'nother matter to refuse to sell it to customers at all.
That is disgraceful!
Another reason why Norton should have used Keihin throttle bodies.

Is the reason maybe because of the Norton request to have all contracted parts sold by Norton or Norton Dealers only ? Jenvey would say you need to go to Norton etc.. Even the Chinese company is not selling . It's like everyone is in a long-term holding pattern . I am sure Norton Motorcycles is behind it all. I wish they would get going for goodness sake .

I'm thinking that I want to pull the insert (and I'm not sure what else I'd call it) for the hose out of the casting / boss, then tap the hole and drop a button head bolt down it. The bottom face doesn't appear to be flat, so there is some work to do there also.

I believe others have already done this. Before I start, any ideas on how to get that insert out?

(Before I start down the brute force path.......)

Last night I went down the brute force path and used some pliers. With a little persuasion, it came out....but I’ts mildly destructive to the insert. I had the same idea, tap and plug, but there isn’t a whole lot of material down there to tap. Some form of ‘IWilson plug’ is looking more likely now!

Did you use any heat at all? I was thinking about *gently* applying some to the casting near the tube before hand?

At least I know now I wasn't the only one thinking brute force lol.

This is a link to the thread about how I blocked the passages in my throttle body.

I removed the vacuum fitting the same way you did, locking pliers and muscle.

@Icrken thanks for that link! Can you tell me - when you were on the original ECU - did you have any issues with disconnecting the IAC? I'm currently talking to SCS about a delta 400s - but want to know what will happen while I'm waiting for it?

A suggestion - Why not find some plastic tube of the same internal diameter ( or slightly larger) fill it with high temp RTV, then wait for it to cure. Once cured push out of the tube cut to length and you have a plug with can be removed again if need be. Alternatively just carefully fill the hole with RTV ?

So, on inspection, i was thinking something similar. But without the RTV. I thought that if I had some tube or hose (something relatively heat resistant) maybe I could push that into the hole then somewhat firmly and then thread a bolt down that hose. A little more thinking yet perhaps lol.

I managed to get the pipe out, a few more photos now it's out:

@cliffa I know you also mentioned the other day about the insulator and I noticed this today. There is actually a pair of insulators also between the throttle body and the fuel rail. They appear made of the same material too. I did wonder if bikes without one, also didn't have the other:

Ah yes, I forgot the hole is stepped. In this post iwilson shows his plug dimensions...

This has already been discussed somewhere on this forum, but I can't find it yet.

The insulator washers weren't on mine (2013) and they weren't supplied when I bought the throttle body insulating gasket. I can't see that they would make much difference though, if the throttle body is insulated.

The fuel rail was replaced with an aluminium one as they found that the steel ones rusted inside.

So, I definitely do not have the machinist skills some people on here have; but:

I'm sure someone else will see its a close copy of what they did lol. An M10 tap was a good size for what was already there, and tapped easily. I held the grub screw in with blue permatex threadlocker and let it set. Later, I pulled vacuum from each of the points with my finger over the hole in the throttle body and it held with no leaks.

Installing it is the next project.

Nicely done. When I did mine, I used a rubber plug at the bottom because I wasn't sure the threaded plug would completely seal the two side passages, but it looks like I could have left that bit out.

I did just notice one difference between the eBay body and the one that came on my 2014 bike. Mine only has one vacuum port, while yours has two. The other side on mine was never drilled for a fitting. I'm curious if the later bikes had the two vacuum ports, and if so, what they used the second one for. Anyone know?
