Dunstall

I'm starting a restore project of my 1971 Norton 750, which I bought new. It's been basket cased for almost 30 years, but I still have all parts, plus what I've been collecting. I bought this orginally with a dunstall front dual disc brakes. I'm looking for parts for these brakes, pads and "O" rings, the wheel, discs, front tubes are all polished and ready to go back together. Would appreciate any information on parts, or cross over parts, etc.

There are lots of parts suppliers that may have what you are looking for, you could try Clubman Racing, Old brits, Domi racer and so on. But the details will be key, 71 was early for discs, is it the early Lyster/Dunstall dual disc?

Sir, not sure about the Lyster connection, I bought the bike new in the spring of 72, a 71 converted from drum to Dunstall. The calipers and sliders are a one piece molded aluminium, and sit forward on the tubes.. I started to restore this bike 20 years ago, disassembled everything, started the process of rebuilding, and never finished. All polished aluminium was sent to a professional plater/polisher including the front sliders/dunstall, and have never been unwraped since I recieved them from the shop were the work was done. I have no idea here in the state where to find parts, I been doing research, but to date have come up empty handed. I've tried domi racer, with no success. Grateful for any help

If you measure the caliper piston diameter and then search the web, you will undoubtedly find some seals that match up, designers generally choose standard sizes when they design components, the Dunstall stuff was relatively low production, so I'd bet that Eddie Robinson who designed these used standard Girling caliper dimensions . You could also simply go to your local auto parts shop, they have catalogues that cross match various sizes of all sorts of things. I don't know if these calipers use standard Commando pads or not, but you can always get larger pads and have a machine shop mill them to the correct size - make sure that you keep the bonded area on the back of the pads (normally characterized by a rougher circular pattern) within the pad area.
