I need to build an hand made Dunstall fairing bracket mount; nobody supply it.
I would to know if the body fairing, those with Dunstall logo that fits it on the bracket with two bolts, at what height should be positioned relative to the upper triple tree.
Please could someone let me know the size of the fairing mount bracket.
Ciao
Piero

I'm trying to recall whether that main mounting base had the U-bolts that allowed about an inch (or more) of up-and-down adjustment?

If so, there might not be an exact elevation.

If you ask around enough, you'll find one (or a copy of one). Also, I would think there are members here who could measure theirs.

Clubman makes a very good adjustable unit that can mount any brand of "bikini" style fairing.

Piero, I have one that I will try to get out of my store room this weekend. It is a pretty poor design I must say, it is indeed held around the steering tube by a U-bolt arrangement, it almost completely obscures the data plate and it comes loose regularly and chafes on the data plate badly. i am going to design a new bracket for my Current Dunstall project, using a large diameter pipe cut into two halfs with appropriate cutouts and nuts welded to the two pieces to clamp them around the steering head.

Not exactly a Dunstall..

The fairing bracket is quite simple.
Note the split clamp to fit around the frame headstock. Yes it clamped directly on the red identification plate.
Also note the 'V' bracket for the headlamp shell. A small bit of adjustment for up/down and left/right.
The bottom curved piece connected to the steering damper clamp on the tubes right under the headstock.
The separate piece laying on the fairing bolted to the top of the ignition coil bracket.
Rubber pads were used at all bolt points to reduce vibration to the fiberglass.

Biggest problem for me was to reduce the steering swing so the clip-on bars wouldn't mash my hands against the fuel tank!

I hope this helps you.

Bob, this doesn't look like the Dunstall fairing that I have, does yours have a separate fibreglass instrument bracket with the Dunstall name embossed in it? Mine also has the headlight lense held in place by another fibreglass dish shaped bracket, not on the separate bracket that yours appears to have.

You are correct, this is not a Dunstall product.
I bought it from Ron's Cycle in Leominster, Mass back in the 1980's.

The brackets are probably similar, but with some differences as you pointed out.
This fairing does not have the dash, it used the standard instrument cups angled inward.

I also bought the production racer seat section that mated up nicely to the genuine Dunstall tank.
The seat used the Dzus clip on the rear and a thin metal hooked piece on the front.
Pretty flimsey arrangement.

Hi Dave,
Thank you very much.
Could you sell me one of yours Dunstall fairing mount, please?.
If you cannot sell it, could you so kindly to let me know the misurements so i can build it.
Regards.

Piero, I don't have one for sale, but I would be happy to share the design that I finally come up with. However I will probably not get round to this for some time, are you in a hurry? In the meantime I will try to take some photos.

Here are some photos I pulled off an ebay ad a while back. It's much nicer than my home made job.

In reality it all depends on which Dunstall fairing you are trying to mount onto the headstock, the bracket I had bolted onto the instrument panel/twin clocks, and the screen/ top fairing were bolted onto that, then the side panels.

Quite right, Piero. To be exact, it is a reproduction PR mount, not an original. I bought the same fairing and brackets in the nid-80s from Mick Hemmings, back before the dispute between him and Fair Spares over use of the Norvil name had been settled. Mick sold a lot of high quality PR repro parts under the Norvil name back then.

Hi Ken,
I have one new of this PR fairing mount "reproduction" , but i dont need it!!!
I would like one Duntall, very poor manifacture, very very easy to build it byself if someone could give me the measurements!
Ciao.

Piero,

E-mail me on 'chiuchowgum@hotmail.com ' and I will try to send photos and measurements, I found the bracket yesterday.

Thanks for id-ing the PR mount photos for me. They look much nicer than my old hack job I thrashed together 40 years ago. Since I've photographed them I'll post them anyway. My fairing had been smashed a few times so there is some extra reinforcing on it.

The dash had an alu reinforcing plate on it and below it was a 1" piece of hi density foam sandwiched between a lower stainless plate. The sides of the fairing just had generic plates that mounted between the gas tank and the light wing at the front of the frame where it mounts. The pieces that rest against the frame neck are exhaust pipe brackets. To protect the frame from their edges a rubber sheet was used behind a thin metal plate.

A worthwhile beef up is adding a light plate where the seat mounts as the seat pan often cracks right across there. I made this one out of "found" materials (as you can see)
