DSUS Replacement

Any thoughts on how to replace the DSUS side cover fastener? It looks like it is brazed to the frame.

the Dsus wire can be riveted in place. (at least that's how I do it) The technique is,... you stick the dsus fastener through the hole, and engage the wire, then drill a rivet size hole in the metal through the hole in the end of the dsus wire adjacent to the dsus hole. Rivet that wire end in place. Drill the hole on the other side of the dsus wire hole the same way, leaving the dsus fastener is still engaged when you drill for the second rivet. Now when you disassemble the dsus fastener, the wire will be centered on the hole which makes engaging the fastener much easier. Hopefully that's clearly enough stated to be understandable....

A rivet??? a fucking Rivet???? what is wrong with the original system???? You put part "A"into the frame 06.2489 into the frame and match that up with part "B" 06.1341
No shaddy treee mechanicx here!
please explain how your rivet system now makes the connection better????

Um,... the rivet is for attaching the dsus WIRE to the anchor point for the dsus fastener to grab when it slides through the hole.......

When I was on a dirt car race team we attached the car's entire body skins with dsus buttons and the dsus wires they attached to were all riveted to the frame tabs.. My guess was that the OP was asking how to fasten the dsus WIRES,.... why else would he think they attach by being "brazed to the frame"?? It just seemed like he was asking how to attache the wire..... but maybe he's not.

How else can the wire be attached? (Although personally I’d put the rivets the other way around)

What is wrong with it you ask?

Have you ever tried getting an Interstate side panel back on in the dark?

I reckon the designer was the same guy that placed the horn.

Sorry I was just seeing the frame attachment from the OP thinking someone had brazed it on. And you are right with the the side panel. They have rivets. I have an Interstate and I know what you are talking about. A pen flashlight in your mouth and one hand to try and twist the dsus and the other hand trying to guide the pin into the hole. Not an easy task.

Or throw away the Dsus and use a quik-latch.
In my case a Roadster cover on an I'state, with some non factory bits behind so mounting was easier.

I converted both of my interstate side covers to Dzus fasteners by riveting the AN sidecover arm shown in Cliffa's post on to the side covers and drilling the frame webbing in the appropriate spot to use the fastener. I wanted both covers to be removable by hand without needing tools.

You did a nice job on that connection. I would like to see that done with an Interstate cover with the button where you located yours.

You may have already seen this, but I also disliked the plastic turn screw on the Mk2a, so I got shot of it…
