Yesterday I got a call from Marie Anne MacRae, telling me of our friend Doug MacRae's passing.

As we all know, Doug was a Norton man through and through, and a fast one at that. He loved his bikes, racing, and documenting it all. What many don't know is what a prolific photographer Doug was. He shot of most of our NYC Norton bikes, did a lot of wonderful snaps for Team Obsolete, and shot travel photography all over the world. He was one of my good buds and fierce competitor. He'll be missed.

Here is a post from Marie Anne on Facebook:

It is with immense sadness to announce the passing of my beloved husband, Douglas MacRae on August 24, 2023. He passed away at home, peacefully in my arms. Doug bravely finished his 4.5 year fight with glioblastoma. He was a force of nature. Doug remained positive and courageous to the end. Our family is grateful for all the love and support which he received since he was first diagnosed with this relentless brain cancer and given only one year to live. Doug’s Celebration of Life service will take place on Saturday, September 9 in Toronto with more details to follow.

God Speed, racer

I just now got an e-mail via GoFundMe, from Marie Anne.

Very sorry to hear of his passing, no doubt he is in a better place. My sincere condolences to his extended family, and all of his friends. Let him live on in the telling of stories, and sharing of photos.

R.I.P Doug thank you for your conversation over this forum and posting videos and pics of your bike and its race winning modifications .
Also for posting the fight against a debilitating disease.
Condolences to Marie Ann and family

Condolences to all who loved & knew Doug … time they beat this all too common killer ….

I'm very sad today to read Marie Anne's update of Doug's passing 2 days ago. At least he was at home with family.
I sincerely hope that there was so much life in the years. I loved his photography and racing videos along with details of
his Commando mods to make it competitive.
The herd has lost a prolific member.
:-(

I notice that the GoFundMe has raised about 30% of its goal. Might be a good time to forgo the latte at Starbucks and pitch in a few dollars to help out. Grieving is bad enough without constant reminders arriving in the mailbox from creditors.

I never met Doug, but he and his family inspire my passion for life. RIP Doug, my sincerest condolences to family and friends.
