All you need now are some bar end mirrors and the short loud pipes! Sweeeeet!

Working on it!

Popped back to the dealer today to hear the first bike with the megaphones fired up.

Well, at the risk of incurring the wrath of the lynch mob... I have to say that is just not a nice noise !

That was on a cement floor enclosed in what looks like a cinder block building with reverbs and echo everywhere. Nonetheless the Megaphones are known for a great quantity of sound not great quality of sound. The shorty loud pipes are loud enough and sound absolutely great!

Personally I like the angry rasp of the megaphones. But these are far too much of a 'good' thing. They need taming down and quite frankly I'm not sure why the factory bothered shipping them in this state. They label them as race pipes but the reality is for the majority of circuits you wouldn't be allowed to use them because they exceed the noise regulations!

The stock pipes are far too quiet and all I hear is the rattle of the engine! Norton has indicated they may bring out db killers for the megaphones with a new engine map - but how long do I wait...

One Commando owner here commissioned his own 2 into 1 system - which looks to have also improved ground clearance.

Those shorties do sound cool but (even though a vid is not a good sound reproduction) they are a little raspy and nasty for my tastes. I prefer the deep, meaty throatiness of the long pipes. Agreed. Stock, the bike sounds like a sewing machine.

Hi There are several companies that will make a decibel killer for the pipe. Any decent exhaust shop should be able to do it. I found this on youtube when I looked at the pipes before.

It shows a French bike with them fitted.

I did say it was a journey...

Nice.....

Not so nice...

Some sort of electrical problem. Fuel pump and starter motor quit.

That's a bugger!

The flasher the bike, the more embarrassing the recovery, it seems...

I once had to get an Egli Vincent recovered. The driver reckoned it was the most valuable vehicle he had ever recovered.

He seemed to find it highly amusing...

I didn't.

Hope you get your electrickery gremlins sorted. Could always stick a pair of Amal Premiers on it ... !

That’s not so fanciful an idea as you might think.
Back in 2011 or 2012 there was a chap in Europe who had a 961 with several problems that he was unable to get resolved by his dealer, or the factory.
So infuriated, he converted his 961 to carbs. I think he used 39mm FCR Keihin’s, and adapted a Triumph igniter box to work with the 961’s crank position sensor/trigger.
I don’t remember all the details of the conversion but it worked.
It would be interesting to hear how things turned out.
Shouldn’t be too difficult to substitute Amals for the Keihins, and have a proper Britbike.

Hello Iwilson , How many miles on the bike before it quit ? It may be just a simple thing like a fuse coming out or a loose connection . Don't fret over it , this will be fixed and you will have it back.

Just over 200 miles/340km. A little annoyed but not really upset. I expect something has vibrated loose. I've been in far worse spots. Broke a driveshalf 30 miles from Grand Canyon village in my Lotus Elise (no parts as the model was never sold in the US). Plus it was Thanksgiving holiday - now that was tricky to get out of! So while we're waiting for service to resume anyone been here?

Did the field pump keep running? I had this on Thursday. Turned out it was a blown fuse. The tail hump has to come off through.

And as for the change of carbs, I think that this might be Raphael who lives in Switzerland. I think he bought the bike second hand and it had been tampered with prior to this and that he did the conversion to right the wrongs but I am sure he will correct me if I am wrong.

As much as I love my Norton, there is that one advantage to my old Bonnie. Lift the seat, change the fuse, make it home. Sorry about your breakdown, Buddy. I'm sure you'll have plenty of more grins coming with that awesome machine.

Fuel pump not running. Nor was the starter motor. Although when pressing the starter button you could hear a weak anemic sound coming from the direction of the gearbox/starter motor. Public holiday today so won't hear anything till Tuesday at the earliest.

Well, that might be the battery and/or alternator, if starter was still making some noise. How many voltage did you still have indicated?

And I have to correct glb twice: My bike is first hand (2012 CR) and is still running with fuel injection, thus no carbs... Sorry mate!
