Desert Sled - The Colgan Special

Just bought this. I’ve been looking for a British dirt bike. The Southern California BSA owners club puts on both street and dirt rides for the membership but I did not own a British dirtbike. A true friend was allowing me to ride one of his - this ’71 TR 6 5 speed - while helping me try to find one of my own.

Well, he decided to sell it to me.

It is much nicer than it looks; complete internal rebuild, many many subtle mods and fixes.

Sweet bke, John. Welcome to the sled club. I want to build one, but with a short rod T140 motor and RT hand shift conversion.

That is a very cool bike. Looking for something similar myself. More photos??

And it has the proper patina, too. Looks like fun, John.

Thanks guys. Fun to show it off.

Power? Can’t really say. Different context. The top end rush of the twin carb 750 it doesn’t have but then that’s not needed when you’re bumping your way up a torn up Jeep trail thanking that single 30mm carb for it smooth 1500 RPM traction delivery as you try to keep that 5 PSI rear tire from spinning out as it grabs another rock
