Hobot, looking for a compression reliever for your Norton, look at these as they might fit and no machining. Could be good for older bikers with an ageing knee and no electric starter!?

May be a bit ugly to some but nothings more ugly than your bike being unrideable and gathering dust/rust!!

Thanks for thinking of me. Aware of plug releases a few years so know there's some issues besides the price and availability. Prior models cost ~$300 each so many just did rear jug. May not fit in area of Norton heads and some HD's need milling fibs to clear too. Raises plug into head so need a special long nose plug that's modified for air channel. I've releases on my 7 cid chain saw so know they coke up either suck open or suck closed. Of course some checking and cleaning wouldn't be a big deal now and then. Would love for someone to try one of the versions sold and let us. There is no reasonable place to tape into bore or into head on Nortons. Best way would be lifting exhaust valve a couple to 3 dozen 1000"th's. Extra tricky for head device not to weep oil.

See if ya can rationalize around this potential.
Spyke compression release total failure~ with flame-job!

So there I was passing a car today, at 90mph, when the power went flat and there is a loud, crackling bang and flames jetting out from the left side of the rear head. I mean big @ss flames shootin' out like a blowtorch about a foot and licking back in the wind. I figure ...awcr@p! I just blew a head gasket in the worst way!!!!!!!!!

Ha Ha Steve, good link and an insight to what can happen! Where ever there's an action, a reaction of sorts will occur, this case, great balls of fire and what an attention getter!

I used to think I had some bravery around loud firey exhausts but loosing a header and later blown head gasket with gas jetting groove damage startles me no end. Those were both aimed away but a plug release would aim up in to more stuff than just fuel line. Gotta be another way besides just over lapped cam or electric boot.

I was just wondering if there is really that great of a need for a compression release on a norton.

Only if you are hobot with 17:1 compression.

Sorry if some's reality is so limited they must put down others to get their jollies.
Peel will only have 7.5 kick off CR d/t the drag only cam profile which packs mix in at higher rpm then add boost to get to 17 CR, so already running no need to release. If Norton had thought it through as I have the wimpy E-starts sprag gears would last longer than a few dozen starts. Swoosh your sense of color scheme seems to match your attitude and engine knowledge, so there. Only way I can see is to depress exht valve a few dozen 1000th's and have parts on hand to try it with local flip lever or bar mounted cable lever. I know how to stay young and strong as old injured man getting new injury, so may not ever need a release like many of you may or already do. I'm only been mc-ling since '99 and half of that not riding d/t crashes or blow ups, so come on dude's catch up on making a Commando an old mans delight.

There is a dual plug head mod that was sold for a time, needs pretty mean machining welding but could place a normal poppet chain saw release that way. ugh.
