After a long delay, the repaint of my Roadster and & sidecovers in glorious yellow is now done. I bought a set of black decals from Andover Norton, having used them before. They are great, being very thin and they stick like poo to a blanket.

I was getting ready to apply the decals, when I noticed that when peeling the backing paper away, the rear of the decal is gold, I was expecting them to be black. I don't want to try applying them, since they can be really difficult to remove one in place. I checked the order again ,and sure enough, I did order black.

I've asked A-N about this, but I was wondering if someone here had used these black ones and can comment of the rear face colour.
If they are actually gold, does anyone want to swap a set of black for the gold ones?

The vinyl decals are the same color on both sides, so your gold back are gold.

Thanks David. I've has a reply from A-N saying that their black decals are actually gold on the reverse, so I'm going to try applying them this week (when I get a bit of time) and will report back.

OK….that’s an odd response from AN. Let us know.

I tried one of t he decals, and it was as Illf8ed said, gold on both sides.

Contacted Pat again about this - turns out it's a simple mix-up, gold was sent instead of black. A-N will replace them for me, no problem.
Actually, its rather amazing that this is one of the very, very few packing errors I've seen in all the years of ordering bits from many different companies.

A round of applause for these vital but often overlooked people!

I agree. Andover Norton is my most trusted source. They are currently out of mufflers for my ‘72. Rather than buy them from an un-tried supplier, I’m will to wait 4-6 weeks for availability from AN.

I've received my replacement decals today, quite good service in these COVID days, considering that they were posted on 12/10.
The sidecover decals are fine, but I do notice that while they look black on the reverse side, the outside looks gold through the covering paper. However, it does have the part number and the word Black printed on the paper, so it's probably correct :)

The tank ones are the older, thick vinyl with a visible edge extending beyond the ink. These always collect dirt around the edges, and look horrible after a short time.
I wondered why they had sent me these instead of the thin DryFix type (like the sidecovers and the original gold ones). It turns out that A-N actually have both types listed. but both are described as Vinyl.
Part no 06.2930 is the thick vinyl (can actually just be seen in the photo) while 06.4881 is the DryFix type, hence the confusion.

They were good enough to say that they will send me a set of the thin type, despite it actually being the thick type I had ordered - thanks guys. I'll return the thick type to them anyway, have no use for them.
I have suggested thatt he part descriptions be amended to clarify the difference between the two types though.

A tooth pick works well to clean around the edges of a thicker decal.
