Damn Footpegs

I have bitched about the 961 footpegs from day one! I wear heavy boots when I ride so I still occasionally flip a peg up accidently because I can't feel it!

I cemented a 5/32" ball bearing into the first existing ball detent on the peg. The peg can still fold up if it needs to, but the force to do it is about 3 times greater then before. I can now feel the peg and so far I haven't flipped it up! :D

A "BB" would probably work just as well! Took about 2 minutes and cost nothing, my kind of mod!

I don't know how many times I have kicked a peg up and had to fumble around to flip it back down. It's a real pain in busy urban areas.

The only good thing about the existing pegs is you can leave them up when the bike is parked and you are less likely to bark your shins on on themwhen pushing the bike about in the garage.
 
That is a nice mod, BP. I don't have any problem with the pegs. By now, I know where the are and avoiding them is second nature. I might kick one up once a month or so, but I get it back down quick enough. I'll still consider that mod though. Its a nice upgrade.

It is a free or almost free mod that takes seconds to do, that is the beauty of it! :D
 
What kind of glue did you use and is the ball bearing stainless? I don't think I'd use a BB. Copper probably wouldn't hold up.

With this mod you don't lose that function!
 
FWIW, I tried all sorts of schemes for making the pegs harder to retract. Bigger bearing, stronger spring, enlarge bearing holes, but in the end i just replaced the peg pin with a stainless 6 mm bolt and nylock nut, removed all the springs and bearings, tightened it all up until the peg was squeezed slightly against the mount till I was satisfied with it's tightness. Kind of like I used to do it with the vintage bikes. Mark.
