Country flag
I would just like to express my gratitude to Americans during the D Day conflict and without their intervention and assistance I probably wouldn’t be writing this.
I would also like to apologise for the disgraceful way the likes of our Political opposition leader reacted to your President. Whoever he or she is, the President of the USA, a protocol must be adhered to as we the U.K. owe you as a country so much.
Rant over.

It was a great sight watching the Dakota squadron over the skies of Essex on the way to Normandy - unfortunately I was riding home so couldn’t get photos.

As Churchill said - “Never was so much owed.....”

We really enjoy talking about what we consider strange about England, but have never much cared for any non family members getting involved in it.
As far as the Trumpster, he's got the thieves & socialists in fits due to his insistence on them actually being included in those covered by the laws of the land and required to follow them.
Our country could really work as envisioned providing 80% of congress were in federal pens doing 10-20 for their past crimes against the citizenry as a whole. My rant is off. Sorry for my easily pushed buttons. My Norton is running great though, but it rains today.

"Some gave all"...

What praise can you say about a generation of men from many countries who saved the world, that wouldn't be faint praise in comparison to their deeds?...

D Day 75 year Anniversary.

The last of my uncles to pass away, a little more than a year ago, went in on Omaha Beach.

There are precious few of those old warriors left.

I once had the honor and pleasure to shake the hand of a Tuskegee Airman.

If England had fallen we'd all be riding Kommmandos! Good lord...

My own grandfather was 16 years old when he joined the NAVY in 1943. Had never left Queens NY, Imagine that.

He died last month at 92.

RIP Grandpa.

I watched the BBC live this morning. They played great tribute to all who served that bloody day. I'm glad there was this remembrance over there.
It was a very well produced program. Thank you!

Unfortunately the networks here only covered snippets.

The Lame Stream Media consider patriotism politically incorrect.

God forbid we should have to call upon these millennial pussycats to save our as$as again.

You do realize anyone between the age of 23 and 40 is considered a millennial. You know the kids who signed up after 9/11? Yeah, those were millennials.
Save that Fox news bullshit for somewhere else.

Thanks for that, my father passed away in 1993, he was R.A.A.F prior to WWII and served in the Pacific, leaving the service in the late 1940's.
The clock is ticking even for those who are direct descendants of those who served their countries.
A thank you to all.

I've been many times to the cemeteries in Normandy, they are beautifully maintained, the huge American one is awe inspiring but so sad (as they all are) when reading the names and ages of the fallen soldiers , truly humbling.
Have also spoken with many veterans of the landings, just ordinary guys doing extraordinary things.
I salute and give thanks to you all.

I was just watching the news about it and they shown a 97 year old veteran doing a tandem jump from a Dekota repeating his jump 75 years ago perfect jump but when landed flat on his face, hopped up and thumbs up with a big grin on his face, great to see, my dad was a Mercant sea man at that time stoking the boilers, so many lost their lives but it had to be done.
Never forgotten.

@NPeteN: The operative word in my post was "pussycats". The word "millenial" was an adjective. You sir, have taken my adjective, and used it as a noun in your reply,

This juxtaposition makes your reply nonsensical as it relates to my post. I am talking about pussycats, and you about millenials. Try substituting the word pussycats where you used millenials ..... make sense?

The first paragraph of your reply, if de-coupled as a criticism or rebuff of mine, stands alone, makes sense, and in fact I would mostly agree with it myself. I say mostly, because the first troops deployed after 9/11 were marine reservists, who were neither millenials or pussycats.

I cannot find any relevancy in your second paragraph to my post. It is off thread and does not belong here, but it does tell me two things about you:

1) you have a negative opinion of Fox news ..... not relevant and off thread.
2) you have diminished yourself to posting incivilities to press your point. That sort of "bullshit" (your word) causes these threads of a political nature to deteriorate to a pissing match until Jerry or Les locks it.

I hope this thread does not come to that, but if it should, the start would lay squarely with your reply.

@all our British cousins who have expressed their gratefulness to American help.

Thank you.

Each generation had its puddy tats...However that was a well stated reply.

ya know what, both of you can make your point without using "lamestream media" , or "fox news bullshit" in your comments. Both of those comments infect a simple thread with a wider argument that disrespects the simplicity of remembering the bravery and sacrifices made by our dad's and their generation.

I don't want to argue with you as I agree this is not the place for it.

It is clear to me what you meant in your initial statement. The faux intellectual keyboard posturing in your second statement only confirms it.

If there is one thing I will apologize for it is for taking the bait and thus lowering the good spirits of this thread. Two things I will do no longer.

What a pity that no one seems to have sent out an invitation to the Russian ambassador to attend the D Day 75 year Anniversary. I have been studying the 2nd world war and IMO the war in the East kept a lot of Germans occupied and unable to fight in the west. BTW did you know that there was also an Allied invasion on the south of France at the same time- as well as false information that the invasion would occur at Calais?
