first thanks for the info on changing the oil. My son and I did it this morning then out for a brisk ride!! ( It's @ 40 degrees here. ) However these carbs are puzzlin the #*%t out of me. When I first start the bike 1 or 2 kicks it idles @900 rpms or so. As it warms up and then I ride it at the first light the idle climbs to 14-1500.After about 15 minutes or so the idle goes to @2000. Then after that it goes to @ 22-2500 and stays there. the bike runs like the wind and accelerates real torquey so I don't know what to do. When it cools down again it repeats. Any ideas?? PS Happy Thanksgiving one and all.

an other thing that will cause idle troubles is the auto advance unit if you are running points. it will hang in the advanced position and cause a high idle.

Another thing that can cause a climbing idle is an intake manifold leak. You've described the classic symptoms. How's the balance tube between the carbs looking?

Another thing is the throttle cable adjustments and routing of the cable itself. Sometimes there can be too many things putting pressure on the cable like how it passes by the head mounts under the tank, causing some binding there. Make sure the cable has a straight clear path from the grip to the carb.

I had a similar situation only recently on a new set of amals.

Went through all the possiblities mixture, idle, cables etc. Very frustrating. Turned out that one of the slides was sticking a bit. This only happened as the engine got hotter.

Bit of wet and dry and the problem at this stage seems to have gone.

Check the slides out. Good luck
