I worked about on a Commando for Piers Forrester who entered it I believe in the Raid d'Orient. Bikes only Paris to Dakkar overland unsupported as i remember it. I was with Reads of Leytonstone at the time. Does anyone have have any info on this or suggestion where I may find out some more about it?

I stumbled upon this old post whilst getting some bike mags ready for disposal.
Mrs is on one of her purges.
In one of the mags is a story about this 4500 mile ride on the 'Raid Orion' in 1972 from Paris to Isphahan (ancient capital of Iran) by Piers Weld-Forester.
This chap was quite a character and also used to race. Sadly he died after a crash at Brands Hatch in 1977.
I've scanned a photo of the bike.

If there is any interest I'll post the rest of the article later.

I remember seeing his accident. Coming around Clearways he crashed into the fencing, he sat up and waved so we thought he was going to be OK.

It would be great to see the rest of the article when you have time.

Apologies for delay in posting I have tried to get permission from the copyright holder but without success so here goes anyway.

Pages scanned from Bike Magazine Autumn 1972.

The Fantic 50cc Chopper on the last page is one for the enthusiasts!
