Commando Side Mirror - Sizing 3/8 or 5/16?

I bought a 3/8 mirror for the left perch on my '74 Roadster, but the mirror is too big for the hole. I tried it on my '72 Combat and it's also too big. Is it a 5/16 hole? I get that I can tap these, but wondered where one purchases the mirrors for these bikes with the right size stem?

You are in Sask. So I would just place a nice order in from Mike of Walridge Motors , London Ont. Just fitted another one on the R. side due to ginormous transport trucks. Canada's a rough place for a bike .

My Mk2 (A) clutch perch was unthreaded and might have been around a 5/16" undrilled hole (which I tapped to 3/8 UNF to suit new TEX ViewMaster mirrors )

There were most likely unthreaded mirrors with a 5/16 nut underneath the (unthreaded) perch perhaps.
(My brake side was already threaded 3/8 UNF)

Edit
This was the original US type mirror that was on the bike and can only assume the brake side was threaded.
The stem looks to be for a 5/16" hole so there should be mirrors that you do not to alter (thread) the clutch perch.

That isn't (or at least shouldn't be) an original Mk2A (or any 850) clutch pivot also be black to match the master cylinder.
Below is the correct 063678 750 MkV and 850 Mk1/1A/2/2A item:

Mk2/2A supplement, Group 22, "064103, Stem Roadster - Interstate, AR (As Required)"

The master cylinder mirror stem thread is 3/8" UNF.

Yes I had noticed the perch being different including unpainted but am fairly sure it was the one on the bike when I got it. Who knows why it might have been replaced but will look through my spares tomorrow.
That one looks more 1971 Commando but AN show the later black offset perch as the 1971 replacement as a single part.

The AN perch looks to have a non threaded hole of maybe 5/16 so have to wonder how the TEX stem fit unless they came in both 3/8 UNF and a straight 5/16" shank with lower nut as those US type mirrors.
I won't be buying a perch at over $80 + post.

Yes, the 06.3678 pivot AN now sells as a replacement for the earlier casting. The one you have is the '71-'72 clutch pivot.

AN also seem to think 06.3678 is a Triumph part which it wasn't as it's listed in their Triumph sections but supply the correct pivot with the switch cluster assembly!

I don't know but there was only the one 064103 Roadster and Interstate mirror stem fitted "As required".
The master cylinder stem thread as we know is 3/8" UNF then, so should the clutch pivot be 3/8" whether threaded or not.

Edit: The 063678 pivot was unavailable for many years and why Mk1- Mk2 Commandos are seen with the wrong clutch pivot as it was a common Triumph part.

Edit 2: My 850 Mk3's pivot is threaded 3/8" UNF.

I did buy one from Mike, and the one he sent was 3/8, which was when i noticed the hole appeared to be 5/16. I like the mirror a lot - it looks good on the bike - so i think I'll try tapping it to 3/8.

Or talk with Mike.
He has always resolved any of my previous issues.
