Does anyone out there have a moldy old Commando 2ls front brake plate they would like to sell? There must be some unused ones with all of the various disc upgrades that have been installed on a number of pre-disc Commandos.

I'm pretty sure the Commando 2LS brake will fit in my 650ss which has a very poor 1LS brake at the moment.

I've read that with the stiffening plate added to the Commando 2LSbrake, it works reasonably well.

Was the 2LS front brake standard on all years of pre-front disc Commandos?

Good luck. You should make e-bay a last resort. The prices are inflated for everything.

Sold mine on ebay and got good money for it.

I think Norvil has new ones for sale. That might be better than buying an old worn out one on ebay.

There is a cruddy looking one on Ebay now with no brake shoes and partial rusty linkage for $200 starting bid, so new might be best.

The last two items I have purchased from Ebay have been unusable even though they looked OK from the photo and were described as being in "Good Condition"
I've also gotten some very good items for a reasonable price, so it is a bit hit or miss.

A good swap meet is a better bet, lower prices and you can closely inspect the item before purchase. Trouble is, we only have two Vintage swap meets per year in my area and one is mostly Harley stuff.

As far as I recall, that rotten Italian 2LS brake was even on the prototype bikes, and stayed as a basic unit until the factory finally got a disk brake to work (long after I left).

I understand that the stiffening kit makes it work fairly well. With the Roadholder forks on the 650SS, you may have to mess about with reaction rod connections and so on, because the Ceriani-style on the Commando have a much larger-diameter lower section.

I located a New Old Stock commando 2Ls setup complete with the Air Scoop and Linkage for $125. I still need shoes ($60) and I will use the stiffening kit ($180)
Not a bad price overall for making the bike stop quicker.

Good score. Where did you find it?

I have good luck with Walridge Motors. I needed a new swingarm for my MKIII and they had an NOS one for $200 CAD. I thought that was very reasonable and I don't even want to know what an Andover one would have cost me.

I was looking for a good used or a new WM2 chrome rim for my Commando so I called British/Italian Motorcycles in Vancouver.

They mostly sell and service new Triumphs and Moto-Guzzis, however the owner, Charlie, is a long time Norton Commando man and still keeps some parts on hand, usually at double the price of the same part at Norvil.

He did not have a rim for the Commando, so I mentioned the 650 brake, or rather (heeding Frank's info) I asked if the Commando 2ls brake would fit the short Roadholder forks of the 650.
Charlie thinks the Commando brake will fit or at least with a bit of work it will. He mentioned that he had a new one complete with linkage and air scoop. He said it had been hanging on his wall for 22 years and had been moved along with his business 4 times during that period.
So he gave me what I think is a pretty good deal on it.

He suggested that I should make an effort to find shoes with the Ferodo linings as most other linings do not work nearly as well. I'll see what I can locate, the Ferodo shoes seem to be quite scarce.
