I thought that I just needed to get used to the riding position on my new Commando CR until I sat on a Domi with open pipes at the UK NEC bike show and it felt like the bike was built for me. The footpegs with the open pipes are slightly further back than the long pipes and give me a perfect riding position - has anyone experience of relocating the footpegs on a Commando?

Regards Clive

As I understand it, if you wish to do that, you also have to move the exhausts out of the way, and if you wish to do that, you have to make new exhaust / footrest hangers.

Access Norton member https://www.accessnorton.com/members/g81-can-cycle.3963/ made something up for his bike which he raced in the US. He was toying with the idea of selling kits. I’m not sure what happened to this plan, but a message to him will clarify I’m sure.

Thanks for that Nigel - I was at the factory on Friday and it was like the Marie Celeste as all effort was being put into building the NEC show stand so I had a good nose around. I still like the look of the long pipes so need to either construct new 'subframes' with footpeg mounts on them, or new alloy plates with the mounts further back, or a new tubular subframe with the alloy mounting plates located further back. I think it it only about 1.5" but makes a lot of difference.

As i also felt my cafe racer's footrests were too far forward, i had the sport/sf higher handlebars installed. An expensive affair because it required a different top yoke...but at least the footrests feel ok now...

Interesting - so it's not just me. I'm a very average 5'9" with a slightly short body but as a fan of the Cafe Racer style I couldn't possibly contemplate my bars pointing in any other direction than downwards so I guess its going to be a few evenings in the workshop....
