600 miles and only two pictures? None of the racing?

Sweet bike. How do you like the front brake?

there's a few bob put to very good use.
The exhaust headers are a very nice colour, are they stainless?
What are those fuel taps?
Nice? more like wicked pissa.

looks lovley that mate cant wait to get over to the tt and manx again next year top meetings :) bet it was fun over the mountain on that commando ultra clean bike btw :) what you use on the cylinder head?

Thanks,

Tom

Yes USA bars with Corbin seat and 18" rear looks good.

Swoosh yes the front brake is very good now wth RGM reline kit.

Sure the headers are chrome and the plugs are the whiter side of brown so it's running hot enough.

Petrol taps cheap stuff £11 each off ebay.

Cyl head I sprayed with satin High temp paint but it turned out matt so I overpainted it with Granville pot black and then thinned some down and sprayed it with the spray gun.

Thundering around the back roads o the Island is just fantastic with such a grunty engine :D

Cheers

nice bike and nice pics , shame we did not meet at Jurby or the Triumpf-meet or castletown

this is Nessie , going from Sulby straight to the Bungalow/verandah by the back roads . My trip did not go without problems as i found that the oif set-up is not up to the job , after going over the mountain i found the rear wheel covered in oil , being pumped out of the frame/oiltank . So it will have to be enlarged for more airspace above the oil
also both my exhausts showed fractures and had to be welded . This inconvenience turned out to be my highlight of the trip .
Our landlord got me in touch with a person with welding equipment and when we turned up , to my very surprise , the person who got me fixed was Dave Molyneux . We spent more than 2 hours chatting about outfits and he told me he is planning to build a classic outfit to come back next year , and also to return to the TT next year with a new outfit
He was not the moody type he is often descibed as to be

this is one of the repairs The bike is not as clean as she usually is but after 2300km , and being soaked to the bone 4 times ,i did n't feel much for cleaning any more

Yoose guys are living the life touring the IOM on head turning Nortons. That Nessie is something else ain't she. I sure hope you figure out the OIF venting - over flow and discovered oiled tire the easy way. Love the extra effort to waist the headers though that freed up space. If ya wanted to take it easy and avoid road grime, you'd be in a boring ole cage missing most of what's out there.

Are you running the breather to the oil tank :?: On mine, I ran the breather out to the ground. I haven't used it to any extent yet due to registration issues, but so far not a drop has come out of the breather (see thread here cafe-commando-build-thread-t8372.html?hilit=%20caf%C3%A9 ) and I am hoping the oil tank will not leak or spew its contents by not pressurising it with the breather.

Hi Lynxnsue
Yes I was at Jurby then at the NOC bash on Tuesday at The Shore Inn Laxey, then down to Castletown for the Triumph do (mate on Bonnie), then to Port Erin for the Italian do(mate on Darmah). Will be back next year. Glad you fixed the bike.

I cannot believe it how we missed each other , we were with a guzzi lemans (black and green ) and a 900ss , the most clean and original bevel on the island ( was in the marquee at jurby ) Also a Duc 888 and a round-case 750 .I did miss Laxey though, having the pipes welded , what a shame we missed each other .So we must go again .....

PS did you see Mc Guiness lap ? we were at Sulby staight ,waiting to cross when he came by , well CAME is an understatement , he was flying , but literally , his front wheel was about 10cm above where ours always is and that for the whole distance . Never seen anything like that . So now i can say i saw somebody do 200miles an hour

no the breather is going out at the back . I got 2 breathers ,one on each side ,one for the engine and one for the oiltank
But running the bike at 6000+rpm over the mountain the oiltank could not cope . Normal use and track days showed no problems but prolonged high revs are something different. I am actually thinking of doing similar to your idea , using the space between the backbonetube and the smaller one . But first the domi

I since have discovered why my megafones broke , I used aftermarket silentblocs and they tended to shear off . In the iom i got (through Dave M ) original Mini blocs and had no more problems , even after the abuse they had to endure
so i think , even for std commandos , do not get cheap replica-silentblocs as they seem to be far too soft and tend to shear
They could make you downtubes to break or rattle the lockrings out of the head (just a thought...)

Yes that 900SS was mint. I have a Hailwood that I am rebuilding over the next few weeks (son goes to University so it's coming in the house (wife is well trained..)

Went home Wednesday as I do the TT as well so I have seen McGuiness go thro the bottom of Begarrow which is very scary

Hook up next year
