Does anyone know the production numbers of the commando 961 models from the first year to 2016? By models

Last I heard approx. 2,000 commandos of all variants. Noy sure the break down other than SE is 200.

Last I read was appx. 2000 bikes total from the beginning of production. Not the beginning of 2016

I remember reading an interview with Stuart Garner in 2013 where he said that Norton were producing 12 bikes per month, but that shortly after beginning shipments to the US and Canada they would be doubling their assembly staff and doubling production.

So if that was correct, you can estimate the number produced since 2010:

2009 through 2013 – 12 per month = 144 per year x 5 years = 720
2014 through 2015 – 24 per month = 288 per year x 2 years = 576

Estimated total produced prior to 2016 = 1,296 bikes.

If that is true (<2000 units since inception), I wonder how a company can be profitable. With R&D expenditure alone, you would be in red.

My thoughts exactly !

I would love to know how many for each year for each model. That would be interesting, I would imagine most of the bikes are sold in Europe.

I have my doubts with those figures. Remember they've also produced 50 Domiracers and 200 Dominator SS's. I doubt that Commando production was cut back to the bone. An easier way might be just to get a VIN number from a recent bike and compare it to an early one.

Don't forget, this is a small company with a relatively small staff, although expanding a bit as of late. The bikes were meant to be "boutique" bikes to retain exclusivity through high quality and low volume. All hand built by a team of two. Robotic or automated
assembly lines cost big bucks too. Lord knows.......we sure paid enough for that "exclusivity". That said, it may have been the Stuart Garner article that mentioned at the time, around 2,000 units to date and NO.....they are not selling to Mahindra. That rumor seems to be running rampant on the British Bike Facebook sites.

@TTted Just bollocks Ted, Mahindra are nice people, by I'm NOT a seller. Too much fun and BIG future. #Norton

This was Stuart garners reply to that rumour on twitter last week

Very good to hear, Richard. Also sorry to hear about your bike. It just ain't right!

My build was finished in December of 2015. The last 4 digits of my VIN: 5227. :? We just need to find the lowest number from the SE owners.

Well There goes that theory , Your number is lower than Contours and the Bike is a year newer . Well if we get enough data , maybe it will make sense. Right now I tend to believe Stuart Garner when he says nearly 2000 machines since 2010 . But keep the vin's coming in just the same , we can create a table with model and years etc.. It should be kind of cool to see it down on paper so to speak. Production now is probably higher than 5-6 years ago.

I have a 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 which is a limited production car. Ford didn't go by the vin number either. Each car has a dash plaque that tells its production number. Mine is G0413.
G = 2016
#0413 of 2000 produced.

I think this is how the commando SE's were done also but don't tell which number of 200 they are.

Last digits wont work. My dads 2013 SF is 005 fifth bike in canada. And my SE is serial 112 but my SE is #112. The se serial numbers and production numbers match. And the last digits on non SE's, at least in Canada is the order it came into the country.
