Hey folks wondering if any of you can tell me what year/make my Commando is according to the following numbers:

frame tag: 301890
Engine: 312884

my assumption is the frame is 1974 and engine is 1973 or so I was told...but I don't know what to call the bike. 73 or 74? Mk IV?

Thank you very much I appreciate that. What are the differences between a 73 and 74? Asking for when I need to order replacement parts for the engine and/or frame.

These two carbs arrived:

CARB SET-AMAL 932 CARBURETOR RIGHT- LEFT NORTON COMMANDO

Question. I dont have choke cables. The previous stock carbs have a screw in the hole where the choke cables go. If I want to block off the new ones do I need to remove the choke slides inside the carbs or just block the holes?

FYI:
Not sure if you know, but forum member Marshg246 can supply you with carbs/carb parts as well as loads of other Commando specific items at very good pricing. He's in the US.

I could use some help on identification of my 850 commando. On my title says Hi rider when i got in 1975 thought it was , after some recent research the only thing that resembles a Highrider is the handlebars that have a sticker on them from a shop in Insanti, Minnesota. Frame neck plate #301963 , 4 , 73, date i guess. there is no stamp on engine that i can find anywhere.

Welcome to the loony bin Mikey.

If the Hi Rider parts are mostly removed only the dispatch record might identify what model it was off the showroom floor but if the original title says Hi Rider it probably is.

No number on the engine pad ?

Handlebar sticker? If they are HiRider bars, pretty obvious as they are about half way to being ape-hanger height bars compared to roadster bars. What does tank look like and volume? A Hirider tank has no knee indents and hold 9 litres. What size headlamp? HIRiders have 5 3/4" lamp, not 7". Banana seat and tall rear grab bar only other hirider specific parts on the Commando.

No there is nothing there and looks like nothing was ever there.

The bike when I purchased it looked like a roadster except the handlebars. Tank has knee indents and had roadster seat, headlight i had replaced after I had damaged it with off brand / style, so not sure on that.

Quite possibly it left factory as HiRider but the dealer swapped to Roadster at customer request or marketing reasons. Are you original owner?
