According to the workshop manual, a 106 needle jet with needle in the middle position (or top with mute).

was going to say 106 off top of my head.. but puzzled by the mute , peashooters were supplied with mutes and a couple of screws in a littlebag to fix should the owner so chose. But the combat as fitted to the interstate did not have peashooters , so no mutes ?

I don't have an answer for you on the mutes as I was only quoting the Workshop Manual. Mutes are referenced in 1972 for the 750 with 930 series carbs, for Combats with 932 carbs and thereafter for 850s with 932 series carbs.

what is the stock needle jet for a combat? Needle in the leanest position?

If you cannot get the motor to cough by lowering the needles, the needle jets are either too large or you have got flooding. Get the cough, then raise the needles one. Anything you do to the exhaust, valve timing or ignition timing can change the jetting requirements, so set them constant first.
