A Norton dirt tracker.
Very slick.
Matt where was this photo from?

This was on display at motorcycles live bike show in Birmingham UK,was there last week and Norton guys on the stand informed me they are considering making a production Flat Tracker. Snapped this picture:

Hey yeah Matt, the flat track bike looks great. If you go to www.nortonmotorcycles.com and look into the news section you'll also see a Mick Grant special edition. They made up a total of seven of them so I think my chances of seeing one are pretty slim. They don't post news very often but I check it every week anyway.

If they make this one available, I may have to get in line (sorry if this is a re-post)

Um, what excuse do you have for not making one yourself? 8)

Swoosh,

You would think.....however, I found out years ago that I really cant build anything for myself. It would take way to long to finish. Then when done, someone would want to buy it and I would have to start from scratch again. Besides, I am well behind on customer builds and it certainly would not be right for me to take time away from those machines to work on my own.

So I figured, if I get something that is already done, then I can avoid all kinds of complications.........at least that's what I worked through in my head

Too successful to enjoy the hobby. Tough predicament. I guess that's the trade off.

More Gear Jams being made - Notice the new engraving vs chem etch. This image shows Ground Plates, Wire Start Holes, Engraving and tapped holes. Next, Wire EDM Cutting, then tumbling, then assembly. #quality. I've always liked when companies show behind the scenes pics of items being manufactured so here's my behind the scene pic to share. CNW is doing well selling these super handy tools so I'm posting it on the CNW thread. Thanks Matt.

If you plan on keeping the bike, this has got to be one of the most handy multi-purpose tools made specific to the 961 engine.

Now that would be my fantasy bike.
Retro evolve the 961:

Pull out all the EFI electronics, throttle bodies and injectors.
Rig up a setup like the carbed Hinckley Bonnevilles.
Crank triggers connected to an electronic ignitor box and throttle position sensor on pair of 39mm Keihin FCR carbs.
It's do-able. The Hinckley Scrambler has a 270 degree crank like the 961. So its igniter box would work.
No more EFI maps to screw with. That would be great.
If you ever look at pictures for Dreer's 952 prototype, it had FCR carbs.

The short side stand does exist. I have been told by owners in Canada that there is actually a Norton part number for the stand. However, acquiring one, or even getting Norton to confirm that the part exists is as difficult as confirming the existence of Bigfoot. Another source for the part would likely solve the problem. I’m sure Matt would be interested to know that every 961 owner that I know, has looked at the precarious, nearly vertical perch of their 961 while resting on its stock side stand, and wondered, where in the hell can I get a shorter side stand for this thing.
I don't have any issue with my 2013 961 side stand

I put an Aprila 750 Shiver engine into a '74 Commando frame. I didn't want the electronics so I made a 2-1 intake manifold, put on an Amal 1000 series 36mm carb. Then I used a Boyer box to fire the stock coils
over plugs in series. I works perfect, fires right up and I set the idle with the idle and air screw on the carb. Maybe I will do the same thing with my 2013 961. It starts poorly, won't idle until warm and recentley cuts right out at about 6000 RPM, also it back fires through the throttle body when just cruising at about 3000 RPM in 3rd under a light load.

I have a similar cold starting/idling problem with my 961, except once warmed it restarts, and runs great.
I found that the ecu goes into a default start/idle mode when the battery is disconnected and then re-connected.
Once in the default mode the bike starts and idles perfectly, like any other modern EFI bike.
However, once you take a ride of any distance, the ecu re-adapts and the lousy cold starting and idling is back again.
The trick I believe to prevent the ecu from adapting, but I don't know how to do that.

You stop it adapting by hiding the signals from the ECU that it uses to adapt, hence the Lambda emulators/eliminators so the ECU no longer gets info on the mixture.
