Club Rego in Victoria

Spoke to VicRoads today about getting the Norton re-registered and was amazed to speak to a woman who convinced me not to go full rego, but to go for club reg. Now I'd not considered that before, because there were limitations, specifically you could only go on club sanctioned rides, but the new regs only limit the number of days you can ride in a year - to 90. You can even ride interstate, with the exception of WA, they demand a full registration to use their roads. This seems like a pretty good deal, rego drops from around $600 to $150, and all you have to do is keep a log book.

Well, that's not exactly all, you have to be a member of a VicRoads approved club. A couple of years back I was a member of the Norton Owners Club of Victoria, but never felt like I belonged there, so I don't think I'll go back there. I've made contact with a couple of other clubs including Hartwell who don't socialise at all, they only do race meets and would be very happy to have me join. Have a few more to investigate and if any other Vics know of any clubs worth investigating then let me know. I'm looking for clubs that are seriously into riding, not just clubhouse meetings, tall tales and tyre kicking. I'll go club reg on the Pantah too once the rebuild finishes (which will be some time after it starts!)
 
It's a good scheme. Here in SA there's similar, 90 days and keep a log book, about the same price as VIC. I was gonna go full rego but then did the math. 90 days, that's 45 full weekends of riding, and if you've got other bikes, it's even better. They've recently changed a lot of the eligibility rules in SA, making the cut off date 1981, instead of a rolling 30 year program. And they've set some rules in place to try and keep the vehicles as stock as possible. So if there's someone running with upgraded Brembo brakes for example, not eligilble. Good and bad I suppose.
Other benefit is my insurance is cheaper being on club rego, not out on the road as much so full coverage is cheap as chips. Back home in Canada, I could've only dreamed of riding for so cheap. Just my 3rd party on my Norton was more than I pay for rego, 3rd party and full comprehensive for a car and a bike here.

But as for clubs in Vic, sorry mate, don't know. The Norton Club here is bloody good. There's a ride every month and that's basically what we like to do. Meetings are to get the formalities out of the way and then we just hang around and talk bikes over a beer.
