The engine sprocket is inboard of the chainwheel by about 1/8" or more. Is it typical to have to space the engine sprocket by that much? The engine sprocket has a long side and a short side. The short side goes towards the crank. There is a thick hardened washer that the crank seal rides on then two shims about .004 apiece. Again, the manual is very poor in info.
This is a blend of three motors. I do not know the fine details if there is a difference in parts

Sorry this is a vague answer because I haven't worked on an A65 for 40 years
But are you certain the clutch is in the right place
IE is there supposed to be a thrust washer missing from the output shaft inside the gearbox? If it has one
Is the gearbox complete with the nut tightened on the mainshaft the opposite end to the clutch?
Is the crank set in the correct position in the cases?
A lot can happen over the years and with a motor built from 3 different motors
Are you certain it has the correct timing side bush fitted? I'm thinking it's the two piece one where an earlier a7/A10 bush was one piece
Also is the crank shimmed ? And in the correct position ?
