Chain slack

I was reading about the cush grommets getting chewed up and wondered if a too tight chain could be responsible? The tiny Norton manual that came with my 2015 sport says 35-40 mm slack. That seems like an awful lot of slack. Any opinions on that? Mark.

No, the eating of the rubber dampers has definitely nothing to do with the chain slack...
I hope with the new Carbon wheels and rubber dampers with metal rings inside the problem is solved.

Hi Raphi , The carbon wheels must be very nice. I hope that is not the only way to resolve the damper issue with the aluminum rim hubs. It seems very reasonable to replace the dampers when new chain and sprockets are required. But every 3000 to 4000 miles is too much especially with normal use. A good chain and sprockets with regular maintenance should last 15,000 to 20,000 miles. Have you had any relief from the factory about this ?

So glad I chose that option. But I have to confess my main reason was to not have to fuss with tubes.

40MM 1.5 inches. That's a wee bit much for my tastes. I go about 33mm
