You California Norton riders sure are a quiet lot. There was a lot more traffic on here when the first 10 bikes hit the US ! :?:
 
not much to say, other then several of the first SE’s got upside down forks, a big upgrade. supposed to b 6 a month till the orders are filled for the SE model. but who really knows.
 
I am talking about reports from the 10 new owners! I know several are members here! Not much to say ! :shock:

"a big upgrade"..... really? I have the Sport with normal forks and can't imagine a 961 handling any better. I've seen reports/test ride mags report back with the 961 having 'slow steering', mine doesn't have this 'slow' stuff but then the mag's did test the USD fork model.
 
The writer of that test did admit that the bike did not come from Norton, the bike was tested "as it came". Tire pressures were not checked and no adjustments to the fully adjustable suspension were checked or adjusted. Many owners have reported that the steering does slow down noticeably with just a couple of pounds of pressure reduced. This may be a Charecteristic of the stock Dunlop as owners that replaced worn rubber with Michelin or Pirrelli do not seem to notice this as much!
If you want your bike to turn quicker the suspension is fully adjustable at both ends. :?

The geometry of the USD and standard forks are very close. The main differances are in unsprung weight and some better internals on the USD fork. I see nothing that would make one turn differently then the other on a smooth surface. But as I mentioned before both ends are completely adjustable and you can slow or speedup your steering in just a few minutes!
 
big upgrade as it has the radial brake mount, and the adjustability of the suspension is much greater. check photo’s on the USD forks and see what the difference is. 5K upgrade is what norton is asking.
 
for a superbike engine it would look a 'big upgrade' but the 961 is putting out a claimed 80hp not 180hp! I've done 4k miles on my standard fork 961 and would say the Brembo's fitted to mine are a slight overkill given the engine braking and that the standard Ohlin's are just fabulous for this type of bike. Would love to hear what people who have tried both forks think of the difference.

I have tried out both and couldn't notice any difference in handling. However I have fitted Pirelli Rosso Corsa tyres recently to my Sport and I find that it handles better and turns in and changes direction much better than the Dunlops. BTW on track days I drop the pressure from standard and didn't notice much difference in speed of steering on the Dunlops.
 
thanks for that John, it's a big upgrade in cash but not in the ride.
I changed my Dunlops for Michelin Pilot Power, can't comment yet as I only managed 200 miles before it went back to the factory for it's last service under warranty (and a frame and tank issue). It's still there after nearly 4 weeks.
