I want to reproduce the crimped ferrule on the breather hose at the elbow end of the crankcase breather on early commando / atlas. I can’t obtain the correct size ferrule for the 5/16 breather hose, tried different size hoses and ferrules but can’t get it right - anyone else sussed this one ? Don’t really want to use a jubilee clip.

Andover Norton show that ferrule as NLA.

I thought that elbow was 3/8" OD but maybe the pre 1971 were different.
This is a NOS oil hose from a 1957 TR6 Triumph, it is 5/16" bore (0.560" OD) that has nice brass end caps, maybe Triumph supplies have something like that ferrule.

Thanks for this, I got it all wrong, in fact the elbow is 7/16”, the OD of the hose is about 5/8” for which I need the ferrule. That Triumph hose is the look I am after. I saw the ferrule on the AN site, but as you say it is not listed. Something so straightforward can be so hard to achieve !

Low pressure brass ferrules are available from lots of hose and fittings suppliers. One such as follows.
D1 is the id of the ferrule, D2 is the ID of the small hole in the ferrule. A is the length of the ferrule.
D2 needs to be big enough for your hosetail and it is advisable to measure your hose with the hose tail fitted since it usually expands. If you don’t have crimping gear then go to a hose shop such as Pirtek who can supply hose, ferrules and crimp it for you.

Steve, that is exactly what I need - thank you. Unfortunately the elbow is in place on the motor, and with the N15 you can’t remove it without taking off the inner and outer primary chain cases - which is a faff to far, so I will do it in place. Pirtek was a good idea though.

Hi Andrew, just completed that task on my '69S. Send me your email and I'll give you the info, cheers David charlton1996@hotmail.com

Plenty of the ferrule type you're after on ebay - hose too!

Steadfastcycles sure know how to charge.
That hose with fuel will go soft within the first year and the outer cloth cover hides that. (fwiw) (Oil might be OK, who knows)

Does the ferrule/hose end cover even need crimping on that early type breather elbow.

Probably low enough pressure that it doesn’t need crimping.
Just use the tightest fitting ferrule possible for the best look.

I have been using "PUSH ON" ferrules with out crimping on my oil feed line from oil tank to oil junction block for several months now ..... no oil weeps at all.

Thanks to worntorn for the idea.

So ferrules arrived from Beaumanor today, amazing service as I only ordered them yesterday! I got a few sizes just to give me some options and one of them fits perfectly, and I think I will get away without crimping. Thanks again Steve for the recommend.
Just shows how useful this forum is. :)

The hose in the ad is 7 mm ID Continental used as OE on BMW airhead motorcycles and, more commonly, on VWs; it shouldn't degrade. The asking price is outrageous! At least 4x (or more) than you can purchase it elsewhere. If you are interested you can purchase all you want from Rocky Point Cycle at $4.25/ft. (it is listed in the BMW-Mikuni section.

It will fit on the Amal banjos, but not on the petcock attached downpipes that were meant for 5/16 ID line unless the downpipes are conical/ribbed.

Best.
