Hi All,

I have some corrosion on the leading edge of the caps on my brake and clutch master cylinders, as pictured:

Before I am binned from the @Stephen_Spencer Concours D'elegance, has anyone got any ideas on a part number for a replacement cap? I believe they are a somewhat common Brembo item?

That corrosion is in the Alloy

Gojuu- I meant to ask. Do you have parts house close by? whatever they call them there. They have many aftermarket covers available for those. KTM and others use that same size. I can walk into cycle gear or other places here and they will have them

That’s from not changing brake fluid enough. Brake fluid absorbs moisture and should be changed at least every two years.

Thanks @Voodooo, I was wondering if there was a reason it had happened.

I don't think a paint or a polish is going to work as, @City Garage is correct, it's actually eaten into the cap and displaced material. And, honestly, if its $20? I probably wouldn't be bothered.

Thanks for the responses. If I get direct swaps for them (aftermarket or otherwise), I'll note back the part numbers etc back here.

Brake fluid eats most paints.
Have you considered black anodized covers?

It's less the fact that it's eaten the paint, and more that its actually eaten the material - you can see that more clearly on the clutch side.

Anodized aluminum is more resistant to brake fluid and anodized aluminum is much harder than paint or powder coated aluminum

The composition of die cast aluminum is not always suitable for anodizing .....
and why oxidation (corrosion) forms quite quickly after the coating has been eating off with dot 4....

I’m talking about billet aluminum and finished in black anodize.

I feel nervous that that diabolic display of detritous is on the same continent as me! I refuse to ride my bikes until it’s repaired:oops:!

So does the cast lettering on the reservoir-caps...like this older brembo unit
