black diamond valves - how to tell

how to tell if the new valves in the head are black diamond? Head was serviced by the PO 15 yrs ago and never installed, has valves that are black and mushroom tappet adjusters. wondering if i still need to hardened lash caps...

The only black colored valves that I know of are Black Diamond valves. They will have a stelite tip which will outlast a lash cap by a large margin. Jim
