Bad timing, just released on the web, a very complimentary CNET
article about Buell:

http://www.cnet.com/news/ebr-return-of- ... sportbike/

http://www.cnet.com/pictures/ebr-factory-visit/19/

But then theres this:

Rationalizing and denial is rampant at the moment, one ongoing theory:

EBR files for bankruptcy against creditors (mainly Hero), goes into
receivership.

Hero purchases EBR from receiver.

Hero Motorcycles USA is launched.

For those who dont know,. Hero is the worlds largest manufacturer.
They sell more motorcycles in a month than any of the top
manufacturers make in a year. They invested over 25 million into EBR
which was to help stabilize EBR and move into a larger production
capacity, while partnering engineering and design to allow HERO entry
to the US market and expand its own product line.

Bad bad news for Motorcycle start ups. Does this sound familiar?
Small motorcycle manufacturer, 10 bikes built a day by hand, approx
$19,998 dollar price tag. Customers love them. Bright future, But
now in receivership? This just kills it every time for anyone else
trying to start up a company.

Sadly,,, there had been plans for a Buell Dirt bike for a long time,
It appears while it had been shelved, it is even more unlikely to
happen now.
Some people hold out hope, Theres even a dirt bike category in die
hard Buell forums
heres one of the better ones: "For those that love to Roost, Rooster forum

A italian translation with an interview by Alan Cathcart with Erik
about the dirt bikes:

EB - For the moment I think the symbol will appear on the tank Erik
Buell Racing. But it is not necessarily only road bikes. Among my
projects there are in fact off-road motorcycles. For some time I think
of it even if one has not happened yet, but now we are near.

AC – This is new! Some other technical details?

EB – Special Rotax single cylinder engine of 450 cc. We are not
looking to produce the lightest bike ever, but very light, but more
reliable than competitors, which requires little maintenance and is
very easy to start. It will have an aluminum frame that will also
serve as the fuel tank and other attractions of the genre. At the time
of Harley Davidson have spent years and many millions of dollars on
this project, but then the manager decided it was not suitable for the
Buell brand. We knew however that many dealers would have liked that
there were also range in off-road motorcycles. The stop came in late
2006 and early 2007 and I think that that was the beginning of the end
of the Buell.
