Okay, I know the horn is the hardest part to get at on a commando but..

I was looking at the Kisan site (at their SignalMinder) and came across this Stebel horn.
It puts out 139 dB (twin tone), quite compact (4 1/2" x 4 3/4" x 3 1/2") and is $40 USD.

Has anyone fitted one of these and willing to give feedback?
Cheers
Rob

Not to the Norton yet. But I’ve had a couple, on a ZZR1400, and also on my motorhome. I can assure you they are extremely loud and will wake up the dead. I’ve got a clone here, just waiting for the opportunity to get it fitted. It needs a relay as it will draw plenty of amps.

Rob, your definition of “quite compact” is clearly different to mine !

Where would you put it ?

Mine is between the primary and the timing case magneto position where on a MK3 a starter motor would go, it will need to move when I add a starter motor. Can't bring myself to use the old horn position, the broken original just hangs there reminding me of the first assembly operation in building a Commando and never got round to removing it ;) .

Yes, I have one of these fitted. I put it in the back of the battery box. I use a Shorai battery, moved the rectifier to the back side of the frame bulkhead plate and do not have a capacitor fitted. Just fits.

I was able to keep a cube van from pulling out in front of me with it last year. How he did not see my LED headlight, I will never know.

Well, once I've fitted a kick-start to it I was thinking..... dunno!

But, seriously, my logic is that maybe louder and easier to see might compensate for the inevitable slowing of reflexes.
See items 12 & 13 in the summary of the Hurt Report - https://www.webbikeworld.com/the-hurt-study/
Not disputing your logic one bit, I get it. But it was a serious question, it’s a big thing, where yer thinking of putting it?

Before I buy one, I will make a box (cardboard, polystyrene ?) of the right size and mess about hoping to find the "right" spot. I will look at @Derek Wilson 's suggestion above - might work for me?
I'll let you know.
Cheers

My original Norton horn is on the Bruce Highway somewhere, only the mounting bracket is still there but it was very quiet and going beep beep with my mouth was louder o_O

I still have my original Atlas horn ..... it has been in my original bits box since about 1963.
I figure what it weighs and what sound it produces, that's the best place for it.

Slick

I have Fiamm FreewayBlaster horns on both my Commando and my modern Bonneville. Absolutely no need for anything louder. SUV's fear me now !!

Mounted to original horn/boat anchor location on Commando. No need for a relay as they do not draw much juice. Priced at around $19 CDN at most auto parts stores.

Be sure to use the included mounting strap as horn is tuned to work at resonance only on that strap.

I used to have a Stebel Magnum horn mounted on an L bracket to the front of the battery tray, used with a relay. LOUD

Better (louder) horn

Eventually the old steel bracket fractured. So, i had a thick SS one made. It eventually broke the corner off the batter tray where the mounting boss for the ham can was.

I now have a meep meep Hella horn on the front of the tray....not so loud, even with a relay.

Put a relay in. You will be pleasantly surprised. The people you are honking at... not so much.

Okay Nigel - I've caved! Can't find anywhere to mount it - but...
I have, in my hot little hands, a pair of Stebel 136dB, twin tone horns - with a mounting plan so cunning you could cut your lunch with it!
Have tested them and they are... LOUD! ...enough for wayward motorists to believe they're about to be run over by a large truck.
If it creates the "WTF pause" while they work out what's going on - mission accomplished!
I'll send photos of the mounting arrangement as soon as completed.
Cheers

I have a pair of horns off a Jap luxury car, they are a bit big , and 130 decibels, so I painted them blue and mounted one each side of my homemade handlebar fairing.
Surprisingly how many tin box drivers get out of my way!

Okay - here's where I've mounted them...
(I'll post close-ups if you need them?)
Cheers
