2X600ml tins of Double T for 7 quid. Should last the winter, liberally sprayed on then wiped off. Only problem is keeping it off the discs and pads. Just back from a blast and had to remember to warm the brakes as a priority.
 
Olive drab doesn’t seem as effected by salt as polished alloy and chrome in my experience...
 
Went out for a rainy ride in Surrey with some Norton club guys , slithered around little back lanes full of mud stones and leaves then home on roads salted by the local councils. Even my phone and wallet wet . Bike gets a bucket of cold water and a dash of car wash wax with a dustpan brush round the wheels. Blow over with leaf blower and wipe chrome and alloy with a bit of towel soaked in ACF50 . Ready to go on Sunday . A DL is delightfully easy to clean !!.

I'll be in Surrey next summer to visit family , do the Lumby stuff , then onwards to Campbell R. to fish.
Today a nice coating of salt on the bike cover after the spraying of Corrosion Block. Salt condensing in the air is the only explanation I can think of.
 
Here you go folks, here’s a little recap of my little experiment over winter..

I cleaned up several empty dog food tins with wire wool and brake cleaner to ensure a clean bare surface, then coated them in a selection of protection sprays and hung them in the garden at the beginning of last November.

I hosed them down once in a while but that was all. So they weren’t subject to road grime and salt etc. It should have been an easy test therefore. But there were still very clear winners and losers. There’s pics attached but I’ll cut to the chase. In reverse order:

In clear last place: Muc Off motorcycle protection spray.
6th place: Mr Sheen (normal household furniture polish, used as it was recommended, & I thought it would be good)
5th place: Home made 50/50 mix of WD40 and ACF50 (interesting as this performed worse than either of them!)
4th place: WD40
3rd place: ACF50, but look at the pics, really not much better than WD40
2nd place: XCP Rust Blocker Clear Coat
1st place: XCP Rust Blocker. But there’s not much difference between this and the clear, but it was still the best.

So there you have it, get yourself some XCP Rust Blocker for next winter.

Most I've seen on YouTube show that none of them do what we hope! Certainly some do better. Also, many are tried that are not really for the purpose. For instance, I really like WD40 for many things, but I don't expect it to protect from weather - not what is was designed for!

Well, yeah, but, actually WD40 didn’t come out too bad, not much worse than ACF50 !

WD40 will still be my ‘go to’ general cleaning and wipe down spray for most of the year. But I’ll be using XCP as soon as the salt appears on the roads !

Still think FluidFilm is a great option...esp for out of sight places under bike (since it can attract grime).
 
I use Corrosion-X maybe I ought to drag a few tins out of the bin and try your experiment.
After all I live next the sea if that doesn't bring on corrosion nothing will.
...and you haven't yet tested the dogs only their food containers!
 
With two Rhodesian Ridgebacks to feed we get through a few tins... if you want a few dozen for your experiments just let me know...!
 
Slightly off topic - but I have found "chain waxes" (specifically Motul) are great for lubricating side-stand/centre-stand/kick-start pivot.
They stay there and do the job well without dribbling on other things.

Same here, may have to stick with it.....XCP does not appear in France and shipped from the UK Postage is now more than the product!

Though I keep my ACF in a large bottle, bit less messy than the drawer :oops:
