71 Commando. The battery strap is there but only holds the bottom maybe 25% of the battery. Is there a better solution?
I have been looking but dont see anything I really like. I would like to have it retained somewhere in the middle of the battery.
Maybe even top to bottom. Any kits or some one that has found a solution. Photos?
I really dont like the tie straps I am using.
BTW I did do a search.

I have a larger than standard 20ah sealed gell battery and so i just thread some long cable ties around it and the battery tray. It sits on standard rubber strips and once cable ties or pulled tight it is quite solidly attached you can shake bike by holding battery.

Are you sure you have the right parts? :?

Looking at this setup, I certainly do not have the right parts.
I know my battery is different . At this time I am going for function and reliability rather than concours correct.
Looks like I need another plan. I dont like cable ties nor do I want to hack it. I will look for something functional I guess.
thanks

This is what I did - made from 90 degree extruded aluminum and threaded rod with wing nuts. Conceptually similar to the stock one but I cut the rods long so that it hopefully fits different batteries. This is on a 1970 battery tray, and I was able to fit the rod thrust existing gaps; on one side I had to cut a small piece of 90 degree rod and put a hole in it for the rod; the vertical piece is inside the battery tray held in place by the battery; the horizontal piece extends out of the gap and the rod is threaded thru it.

Nice idea, maybe I can manufacture something like that. Thanks for the photo.

I use the genuine item number 56 in the diagram. Years ago the rubbers perished so I cut new ones from an old inner tube. Used the same staple like wires a swell. Works a treat and looks the part. I did use a hacksaw to put 2 more grooves in the angle bracket [ item 57 ].

I use a short bungee cord with the tines bent to accept the stock hold down holes. Never moves!
