Anyone have a photo which shows the lower battery cover mount stud? Have one on top, but nada on the bottom, so I'll have to fab something up.

Dano,
The lower side panel mounting stud is part of the battery tray that is used on the earlier 71-74 Commandos. The problem you have right now is that your battery is in the way and needs to be rotated so that the battery runs lengthwise. It's probably easier to just go ahead and acquire an earlier type of battery tray.

However, you look like the kind of guy that likes to fabricate things. I fabricated the battery tray for my 850 Mark IIA motorcycle. One of the reasons I did this was because I was going to use Roadster side panels with the tool tray. I made my battery tray with 2024-T3 aluminum alloy and 4130 Chrome Moly steel. I ended up making my battery tray so I could continue using my Mark IIa side panels as well as the earlier type side panels. Here are a few pictures of what I did that might also give you some ideas.

Overview of the complete battery tray

Battery tray installed. Note that I have the bracket for mounting the Mark IIa side panel.

Thanks for the pics. I made a single bracket with two posts that bolts where the top post bracket goes, but i've moved the hydraulic brake light switch to behind the battery. Had it on an aircraft clip like the ones that hold the rectifier/regulator pod, but I think I'm gonna remake the cover bracket and mount the brake light switch to that, too.

Nice work on the battery tray. I have a Mk III battery tray that's been modded for a smaller battery, but I still think it's a bit bigger than what 750s came with. It also holds the bottom of the oil tank via a hole that a bolt slips through and threads into the bottom of the tank.
