I'm going to be in Tuscaloosa / Birmingham area in Alabama for a couple of weeks. Thought I'd check out the Barber museum whilst I'm there.

Is it worth a visit?

Any tips / must see exhibits / etc?

It should be on your bucket list if you are into motorcycles. Plan to stay for a day event. You still will not see everything.
Cheers
Thomas

In one whole day from opening time to closing time. you'd have to move through at a fairly brisk pace, perhaps photographing every 10th bike, maybe 3 or 4 photos every 20-25 bikes, and you MIGHT (maybe) get all the way to the top floor. Maybe.

...then again, if you show up an hour early and mosey around the parking lot and front of the building, Mr. Barber might walk up and ask if you'd like a personal tour... I know this happens rather often, I've heard stories and know that the man is that cool from meeting him every year in the pits (he remembered my name the 2nd and 3rd time, too)

Ok, thanks guys. Ive booked a night in a nearby hotel the night before so I can be there bright eyed and bushy tailed first thing on Saturday morning !

Fast Eddie.
you will not be disappointed. Get the battery charged for your pictures. When I was there last, the main museum was great but there was a new addition being under construction and I couldn't go to the bottom level. When Barber hosts race event you would be allowed in the lower level to see the machine shop and rebuilds.... that was my recollection of my first time there at the October Vintage race. I am not sure what has change in two years but you should still have a good show.
Keep us up to date on your best moments
cheers,
Thomas

Do NOT miss the opportunity. If after seeing Barber's you decide to sight see other stuff there is the Little River Canyon National Preserve in the NE part of Alabama (near Fort Payne) And there is a NASCAR museum in Talladega NASCAR stuff of course but when I was there they had one of Sir Malcolm Campbell's land speed cars, unrestored! Don't know if they still have it.

Wheels Through Time in Maggie Valley isn't too far away and very neat to explore.

^ +1
Beach is right! it is very neat and not at all like Barber, and to that I say vive la difference
