Ok, two weeks ago the phone rings, on the other end a guy is having trouble with his Norton Forks.. he tells me they feel stiff and sticky..
So he sends them to me for a inspection,
He had just " re-built them..new stanchions. bush's etc...and he had problems.
on stripping them the new lower bush was scored to hell and jamed in the slider at the upper and lower area..classic worn sliders...the oil remaining was gritty, which had caused the tearing.
I cleaned up all the parts in kerosene and paper towled the slider's out...the top bush was slack in the leg, and rocked .
The wear in the slider gave approx 5 thou slop...
So i reamed out the sliders to 1.505 [plus 5 thou] and made oversize bush' in PEEK ..the man had one lower damper fiibre washer in the inside and the other on the outside?
One slider had a damaged damper location that caused it to lean over ..attempting to bind up when the top nut forced it back into the centre...the damper rod is badly chewed where mole grips had slipped..in all a real dogs dinner!
The internals of the damper's is badly scored from the grit ...Now the cruz ..this was being got ready for the MANX GP!!.. god help the rider!!!

Ok, if the front end was that bad, I'd bet th isolastics and swing arm were probably unsafe as well. I wonder if any of this would have been caught at thr tech inspection?
