So I just installed the new longer dipstick with its fancy new markings. Ran the bike with the old one in about 2 minutes, let it settle about 20-30 seconds, oil level was dead center btw lower and upper mark (as usual). Did the same with the new dipstick and the level was at the top of the marking. Kind of wondering what all the hubbub was about, Bub. ? Not a load of difference. Expected it to read much higher on the new stick. Glad it didn't.

Curtis that’s interesting.

Maybe this has something to do with the differences between one 961 and another.
Before I had the oil in airbox fix I had to keep the oil level on my original short dipstick below the low oil mark to avoid blowing oil into the airbox.
Sometimes it was difficult to even get a measurement from the end of the dipstick to prove I had oil in the tank.
I really didn’t like that.

The oil in airbox kit came with a new longer 120mm dipstick.
With the kit installed I can keep the oil level midpoint between the high and low marks on the new stick and it hasn’t moved since.
No oil in the catch bottle since either.

Also, the knurling on the new dipstick makes for an easier read of the level.

The original oil dip stick is 110 mm from bottom of threaded cap to the end of the stick . The new stick with the knurled section is longer by an inch or more . The original stick low mark should be about where the new stick knurling begins (top of knurled section) . The new stick drops the level in the oil tank by about an inch or so if you fill to the middle of the knurled section. That's all this new stick was meant to do. Help you run the oil level a little lower in the tank and monitor oil level deeper into the oil tank. I like the new stick and think it's helpful. Compare the old stick and new stick to each other and you will see this.

NEW oil dipstick from Norton Factory UK . Many thanks to Richard Pearce (BlightyBrti) for sending this information. The stick measures 150mm from the bottom of the threaded cap to the bottom of the stick. I have ordered this stick and when I get it I will have the original high mark cut in for my use , then put it into service . Looks better than the bolt I used for testing earlier hey ???? Long Live Norton ! Thanks again Richard !

So Guys , Your stick better measure 150mm or you ain't got it !

Oops!
Tony is correct the new dipstick is 150mm.
My original was 120mm.
Sorry about that.

I got mine through AF1 along with the patch kit for the fuel light. I never had much of a problem with the fuel light before, but since my accident and having the tank replaced, it flashes a lot now. They must've jostled some wires. I didn't get a new cap and O ring though. Kind of a bitch getting the old one out without scoring it a little. Damned rag ripped a little under my pliars.

New dipstick is much, much better. I can finally figure out where the oil level is. All too subjective, in my opinion. Based on the old one I think I was running a tad low for my first 1500 miles.
