Fast Eddie, a 120/80/18" 62 V AM 22 arrived at my door this morning, I can get that tyre size in a race compound, I am changing from a 110/80 18" AM 22 (available in race compound soft or medium) so this will be trial to see if it stands up to race conditions
There is also the 130/80/18" available (cantilevered ) and I am using WM 3 rims

Here is the link for tyrs available here

Mike,

The 120/80 18 AM22 isn’t on the list you linked to ?

I used to race on AM22 / AM23 (the AM23 cantilever is what I used to run. That’s the one designed for ‘narrow’ rims and is actually called a 130/650 18, and you need to ensure you order THAT and not the 130/80). I thought they were great tyres, but they don’t suit my current wants.

Dunno if you’ve seen this site, it gives good info regarding rim widths for the various race tyre options. I quite like the look of the AM18 Super Venoms myself...

Well, let's face it, the looks are the most important thing after all.

Maybe to some Ken.

Personally, I’m more interested in what they ‘look like’ in terms of fit, grip, wear.

And for track use in particular, I’m looking for grip and increased contact patch at more acute angles of lean than I would on the road.

When those boxes are ticked... I ‘like the look’ of them...!

Reminds me of another person who used to post pointless comments. I can't remember who it was, but he was also best ignored.

I think it's called trolling.
Thankfully there is not a lot of it on this site.
We should thank LAB and Jerry for that!

A troll. I've never been called that before. I think you're confusing calling out bullshit with something else entirely.

Well, apparently something that "looks good" means something else entirely from what normal people mean when they say it.

There’s no apparently about it at all Ken. If you actually read the post, in which I said “I quite like the look of the AM18s” ... and if you’d actually looked at the link I posted to the AM18s... it would be very obvious that I was referring to the fact that the tyres appeared highly suitable for a Norton Commando used on the track.

It really is as straightforward as that.

colloquialism
/kəˈləʊkwɪəlɪz(ə)m/
noun
  1. a word or phrase that is not formal or literary and is used in ordinary or familiar conversation.

So, my mate fitted Metzeler Roadtec tyres to his Harris Tiger recently. I rode it to, back to back with my own T140 with Roadriders fitted.

Verdict: the Metzelers are good. Can’t Vouch for mileage yet, or track performance, etc. But on the road they were very good, light neutral steering, very easy and precise at all speeds, very confidence inspiring grip. I rode about 20 miles on fast A roads and tight gravely / horse shitty B roads.

In terms of grip I couldn’t really separate the Metzelers Avon’s with the type of riding we were doing. But the Metzelers won in terms of their light, neutral, flickable feel.

Certainly worth considering if you’re looking for alternatives.
