I'm not sure if these are a good idea but I might try them out. All three were $24 so it's a cheap experiment. While I have the electronic charge/oil pressure light I'm curious as to if a gauge will be more informative.

They showed up in less than a week from India. Which is about how long they will probably last on my bike. :D

The ammeter will go inline between the battery and ignition switch.

I'll just connect the voltmeter to the fuse panel somehow.

And the oil pressure will come off the rocker feed, although I'm uneasy about how much crap is hanging off the rocker feed now.

+/- 50 amps is inappropriate for an ammeter on a Commando. The needle will barely move. That voltmeter would be sweet though if you can mount it.

Even if it just moves back and forth across the zero mark would be enough. It's just an experiment. But you're right, the voltmeter would be more permanent.

Here's my current rig, temporary of course. I haven't had a chance to test it out.

I have the warning light from ICM and I'm getting some weird readings. When starting out the light behaves normally, goes out around 1500rpm (unless I have the headlight on, then it's higher). But when I'm riding for a while the light will come on until 3500rpm. I do have a very small battery but until I had the light I didn't think I had a problem.

Maybe I can figure it out with the gauges.

I have this one ...

Eclipse

I also get some odd indications with it. So I've temporarily mounted a DVM from Amazon -

There's a time lag between the 2 but for the most part they agree. The meter will come off when I have confidence in both the LED indicator and my charging system.

Can you expand on this?

SparkBright supplied me with an LED that changes colors, calibrated to the charging needs of a Lithium Iron battery (it's one of their stock items). Supposed to be solid amber between 13.1 and 13.4 volts then go green up to 15. I'm seeing amber above 13.4 instead of green. It will eventually go green as I ride, but there seems to be a time delay compared to the meter. I think they do that on purpose so the device doesn't respond to short term loads like blinkers.

For me which ever way you positioned the additional oil take off onto the rocker feeds it just spoilt the clean lines..so I ran the feed down to the timing cover and took it off there

I've already got the oil pressure sensor down there.

I have been looking for a Smiths voltmeter. Where did you find them and are they smaller than 50mm?

Not under 50mm but close. They benchtest ok. I suspect they will need to be carefully mounted so they don't rattle to death the first time I start up the bike.
