Atlas gas tap

Remove tap and measure height to the top of the tube from base, different bike tanks required different lengths. You could in theory remove the gauge and solder a longer tube on top/ or replace.
These tanks are not flat at the bottom, so .......

The dual tap shown is in the bottom of a well that can barely hold a teaspoon difference from bone empty reserve and to the top of the "main" stand pipe. Pix is from my faux 88SS tank "small" slim line tank.
Push pull- on/off and swing lever-main/reserve 5 miles if lucky...?

A different tap to mine but yes, the same problem , but makes no sense as there is a good separation of levels in the tank. That's why I am suspicious that fuel is bypassing inside the tap. I also know that its possible to reassemble the tap in several ways ,perhaps that's what I did. Happily I have several identical taps so can check.

Surely you know the slot in the spool, (or plunger) must be horizontal in the MAIN position. The slot aligns with the RESERVE channel in the tap body when rotated 1/4 turn to the vertical position.

Slick

From memory the slotted end has a sloped center which can fit 2 ways ,perhaps that's whats wrong . Not looking anytime soon as I am slowly drowning under a sunami of home maintenance issues (85 year old house) and not really upto full strength after a bout of covid 19 that nearly killed the wife.

If you look at your photo , the long tube lowers the p/tap therefore restricting the amount In reserve.
I would open the gauge and solder a longer tube on if you cannot get a suitable tap.

Received my order from Tracy Tool today. 16 days from order to in my hands. There was a 1-5/16 die stock for my 1/4 BSPP die. I finally was able to run the die over the Dapco Dexter fuel tap that comes in 1/4 NPT. This is a off/on/res with a 1/4 hose barb, straight down, for attachment. The "on" stand pipe is 1.95" tall. Sitting in the .97" mounting well on the slimline tank, provides 1" of fuel on reserve. The Paughco 800AR seems to be offered for around $50 free shipping (USA?). Mine was old inventory time and source unknown.
IF it is a Dexter then at least it is nitrile rubber seal.

That 1" sounds like a worthwhile amount of fuel. I suppose that if there are lots of fuel stations around where you usually ride a small reserve is ok. That used to be the case in the UK. However Stations close and more to the case I only will use non Ethanol fuel. This restricts me to just one brand (Esso) and my local has just changed . I think I will be modifying my spare Ewarts tap, and doing an out of tank test to see if fuel can bypass the inner workings. In the meantime I am storing a 5 gal race can of fuel at home. (not ideal!)
