anyone recognise this old drag bike from houston?
I've just uncrated this beast, which was originally ridden by Mr RW Rogers, the uncle of the current owner of British USA in Houston. Does anyone have any other details/photos etc?
It came with a 750 race motor, an 850 road motor, a box with what I think is a Quaife housing, a Bewley 2 speed and a (home made?) slider clutch hat.

More to come as I start dismantling......

I have tripped over that bike 1,000 times.
Bob "Uncle Boob" Rodgers was my boss for a long-time, he was not related to Cliff.
When I worked for Uncle Bob I was living with Cliff.
I have copies (somewhere) of the "web pattern" that Bob had welded onto one of the trans cases to strengthen it.

Vince,
"Uncle Boob" ...... That's got to be the name for the bike.We were going to call it Katy since it says "Paint by Katy " on the tail fairing !
Did you ever see it run? I don't have the induction, but I think it had carbs. I'd imagine it ran a whiff of nitro, but I'm sure more will be revealed when I get the motor apart. There's a rumour that TC may have been involved, but that's just a rumour. now that I actually have the bike in my grubby hands I'll try to contact TC again to see if he remembers anything.
Any other tidbits of info would be greatly appreciated.

Fast Eddie,
I plan to put in back on the strip for an occasional nostalgia meet. Don't know if you've been to Dragstalgia at Santa Pod, but that sort of thing (In Australia). I know that's likely to draw flak from some people, but it should be good fun.

I'll be back asking questions later as this is my first Norton, so please be patient with me!

Cheers,

Brian the snail

Yep. That's a Norton Commando Classic Motorcycle alright. You can recognise it by the motor.
Ta.

I never saw her run, I worked Uncle Boobs warehouse for a long time and it was sitting between 2 shelves.
We sold Wiseco pistons, Maier plastics for 3 wheelers, Wooly Booger 3 wheeler tires and vintage British bike parts.
For those who remember them Uncle Boob was the guy behind the "Big Bike" brand of bike parts.
I was in Cliff's office yesterday (he is an old friend) and there is a framed picture of Uncle Bob on her back in the day at a rally in Canada, Cliff told me that he is going to scan the picture and send a copy to you.

Good on yer Brian !!

Vince, Thanks for the background, every little bit is useful. Any idea when it was "parked?"
Hobot, No evidence yet, guessing 11's or maybe high 10's? The (venolia) pistons have a hell of a dome, so I'm guessing that the fuel was methanol.

A brief look inside shows a steel flywheel, Norris 480 cam on needle rollers (.435 lift at a quick measurement), BSA tappets running in bronze blocks, lightened rockers,41mm inlet valve (and I think a 35mm exhaust?) double springs with dampers and titanium retainers. Looks like Uncle Boob put a fair bit of work into development.

Frame is a D&K from California, incredibly light!

More news as it comes to hand.......

With the yummy to the tummy details implies like 75+ hp so I'd guessimate low 10 s 1/4m
