Am replacing the 1/4" plastic tubing from my oil pump to the rocker spindle oil feeds and having "fun". It occurs to me someone has done this before and likely discovered during or after the fact, an easier way to installing/attaching the banjo bolt nipples into the 1/4 inch plastic tubing?? Warming up the plastic comes to mind for one....
Thanks
Ron

Warming up the plastic and a little lubricant are 'bout all I can come up with....

Many substances expand when heated. I wonder if plastic contracts when cooled after being heated - to ensure a tight leakless fit?

Plastic tubing will certainly be a bit more pliable when heated. And it shrinks back down to original size when it cools so yes you'll get a good fit. I do this sometimes, e.g. to get tubing to fit nicely onto brake caliper bleed fittings. Best of luck.

Take 2 short 2X4 blocks and clamp them in a vise. Drill a 7/32 inch hole between them at the parting line. Heat the tube in hot water and then clamp it in the groove between the 2X4s leaving 1/2 inch sticking out the top. Now use a small hammer and drive the banjo into the tubing. Piece of cake. Jim

PLASTIC ! ? , heat proof nyon hi temp pressure line !? ordinary plastic aint it . Boil in oil , or boiling water. And so on .

Do like Jim says, I used a bit of oil in the tube and on the spigot and it seemed to help it go on. Rubber mallet too and a good decisive hit, may take a practice or two. I don't even heat it. I also used a Rigid tube flairing tool to hold the pipe, but the wood and vise works fine. For sure don't put the paint stripper heat gun on it, once that nylon 11 sags, it doesn't go back into shape.

Thanks to all and esp to Jim and Dave.
I like that idea and can see how it will work when I try it tomorrow. Will let you know.
Ron.
