Any Harley XR1200 riders out there?

Hi Russ

From the list of classic bikes you own....you need one new one :) Have fun.

Well I can no longer say that the Norton is my "modern" bike.

I bought the XR this morning. They really wanted to get rid of it bad before Jan. 1 and I got it for what I willing to pay for it. It was a good deal - a lot less than they told me at first. It really helps to be willing to walk away. I had one arm in my coat sleeve and was getting up to head out the door at one point. They gave me a nice retro Harley T-shirt too! Woo hoo.

Pick-up is Wednesday. Will trailer it home since I'll have to get used to swapping brake and shift feet. I don't think I'll be able to wait for Spring to give it a try though. Last night I found this youtube video which blew me away... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fqgwo_WdyRo. That bike probably still weighs around 500 lbs.

oh Cool Russ I'm hi on your bargain real motorcycle. The back flip on XR1200 is a show topper but its the pilot and ramp set up that's doing the trick as any ole bike can and has been flipped. Do note he's holding it on rev limiter so slow the spin to land at good angle instead of on head, Hurts me to imagine doing that, but I do. Another thing that makes Harleys and Norton like kissing cousins, neither of them can do a stoppie, which don't mean they can stop about as well as any, just can't lift tail before tire slides. So just limit your self to wheelies, burn outs and parking lot drifts and you'll be fine. Can't wait to see a Norton doing what a Harley can in fun stunts. The first sportster I got to see was a crazy friend who soon tired to impress us by standing on the saddle then crashed trashing the Harley too much for him to recover it.

Here's what you'll most likely be doing most of...

Home with the new orange toy. It was 22F this morning. The bike was so cold from the 30 mile trip on the trailer that it wouldn't start , so had to take the battery out and charge it. All good now though. The roads are loaded with rock salt but I think I'll at least go up and down my street (not that bad) a few times tomorrow. It will be a really really long wait until Spring. The guys at the Harley dealership have been riding in every day with their heated gloves, etc. It is like a competition with them. Need to get used to no petcocks, no tickling, and pulling the clutch in to start. This thing is fuel injected and has an oxygen sensor in the exhaust pipe just like a car.

Thanks for the help and support from the forum and my best wishes to all for a happy and safe 2013.

Russ
