Out of curiosity, I sent a note yesterday inquiring about my serial #317709 since I bought this new and I thought it may be interesting to see what I'd get back.

This was the reply "We don’t, if you see our webshop, we carry records from 317848 onwards."

You can look here to get some info and if you provide yours you'll help others as well: https://www.gregmarsh.com/MC/Norton/CommandoSurvey.aspx

Lot of blank numbers. Anyone could stamp their bike with one of those, and claim it was whatever they wanted it to be!
Think those blanks were motorcycles going to the US. Everything on this sheet went to England….maybe another sheet for the US numbers.

My FB was dismantled late 68 for experimental tests but it doesn't show the actual build date. When I inquired about the bike in 1995, NJ Hinton from the Owner's Club said the other machines in numerical order were G15's with disposal dates of 1967. My bike is titled a 1967. He did note in his letter that a #123667 Commando was built in 1967 and went to a Byron Black in the USA and that there was another date associated with that bike as 14/8/68. He had a ? mark for that 68 date.
