Success!!
Nice to know something actually fits correctly.

How did you correct the Loop Droop?
I put a piece of 4x4 across the frame above the oil tank then rested a long length of 4x4 on the piece that was across the bike, strapped it to the rear of the loop and with the bike strapped down levered it up. It was only 1/4” dropped so I decided I didn’t need any heat if it had been any more I would have been reluctant to lever away without warming things up first. As it happens all is good with no cracks to the enamel and no other issues.

Reggie and Dellis, You both have "take off" Mk3 seats rather than the OEM MK3 hinged seat?

So to install this AN chrome rack on an Interstate you have to convert to a removable Mk3 seat?

I am curious how the rack attaches to the loop at the rear. Any chance you can upload a photo?
This was always one of the annoyances with the old Craven rack: nasty paint chipping brackets that attached to the rear loop.

Yes, if you have a Mk3 seat, A.N. supply this bracket that replaces the hinge on the left hand side, therefore effectively making it a removable seat......but without having to buy a new one. I understand that on a Roadster, the seat clears the rack and so this modification isn't necessary.

The C clamp that comes with the rack to secure it to the loop has the rubber sleeve fitted on it. Not high tech, but does the job without scratching.

The rear loop mounts are there for sideways stability and do not impose any weight on the loop, the full weight of the rack and any load is taken by the top shock mounts and the rear of the Z plates. I’m impressed with the design and the quality.

Thank you Reggie, i found this at AN
p400, I think if you are intending to order the luggage system for the Mk3, this bracket is included in the fitting kit and so shouldn't need purchasing separately. I'm pretty sure it was when I bought mine. Dellis?

Can this rack work without the top piece?

Maybe but you need to fabricate a cross brace as I think the p clamps would give enough support to hand a pair of panniers from the frames.

Yes the mk3 parts are included.

If anybody wants one I have the spare that came with the rack. I have a mk2a so I don’t need it. FOC posted in the U.K. FOC plus post at cost rest of the world. Fasteners included.

Right I’ve bitten the bullet and ordered a pair of panniers for my shiny new rack, I guess they won’t see any use this year but once I have them they’re there for when we’re free to roam about. I was I’m-pleased with the postage costs; £8 for a pair of pannier isn’t out of the way.

The 40 litre pair from AN, if I go anywhere solo I use a roll bag and don’t bother with boxes, the panniers are for two up use hence the 40 litre choice.

Dave

These fit straight on and don't need any clamps etc. Much more practical than the 1970s systems. They hook over the top rail of the side frames, slide into the front downtube of the side frame, and have a clamp that is also the lock that fits the panniers to the frame against theft at the rear. The same goes for the 30 litre variant that I have on my personal everyday Commando.
