Has anyone fitted and used one of these? I like to look of them as they’re braced so won’t stress the rear loop and it gives you the option to use hard panniers or if you use soft panniers the side loops would prevent them from rubbing on the shocks.

Any thoughts?

cheers
Dave

Dare I say it I have had the rack on my private Commando(s) ever since we had the first batch made. So, yes, I am biased. But I find it very practical especially for going to work with a briefcase on the rack or, if I need more stuff, with the panniers on.

The idea behind the racks was to offer something that works and fits without two dozen clips, adaptors, and ugly struts like the system I had fitted on my first Commando in 1977. I won't give the name of the manufacturer, but it remided me of a comic in MCN at the time: "This is the universal system. It doen't fit anything. And this is the special Honda CB750 system. It will not fit a Honda CB750."

I delivered an Interstate, a Roadster, and a Fastback Commando to Hepco & Becker and told them what we wanted. The system fits all three variants.

Any chance of the rack in stainless?

Looks a nice bit of kit but I have a stainless fetish!

I installed the rack on my Interstate, and love it! Now I can use the same hard bags on the Commando as on the Triumph Bonneville I own. I sold all the Craven stuff that I used to use.

I have the Andover Norton system, got it second hand from a club member and the Hepco/Becker panniers from ebay.
Great system, it all fits properly

This thread got me thinking (dangerous!!!)

I have an old set of Krauser panniers & topbox similar to these:

Does anybody know if this generation of Krauser panniers will fit the AN rack?

The original rack is quite ugly & I wouldn't fit it to the Norton:rolleyes:

I fitted the rack purchased from Andover Norton, 24/8/2011, Invoice 12878 and it is a great piece of kit. Bike (Norton Fastback) has done 89,000 mile since and the chrome finish is still like new. Used for interstate touring with camping gear. I don,t use the hard luggage as the Australian back roads can be rough on them. Andystrapz canvas expedition panniers with mounting strap extensions allow you to put your overnight clothing under the rear strap to align the bottom of the bags with the angle of the upswept mufflers.

I fitted the A.N. rack system in 2015 and think that it is excellent. The fit is good and the chrome is still in great condition after 4 years (as you would expect). I opted for the larger Hepco & Becker panniers and top box that I bought from Moto Bins as I tour every year 2 up with my wife. Smaller and different style panniers are available.

Nicely decked out 920cc FCR equipped tourer!

Also nice to see your 961 Street and Aston Martin in the background there Reg...

Me too when funds allow.

I’ve got some panniers and frames for sale on eBay which will be going towards the cost of the new rack and panniers, the one I’m selling is black and I think the chrome will look better on my bike plus my frames have a top box mounting plate and I prefer a rack hence mine are going to be replaced by the AN item.

Well it’s taken a few weeks but I’ve finally got round to ordering the AN rack. Will let you know what I think when it arrives.

Rack now fitted and I have to say I’m impressed, everything fits as it should with no tweaking necessary. However fitting the rack highlighted that I had a slight droop in the rear frame loop which I corrected. If was was going to be super critical it would have been nice to have imperial fasteners instead of the M6 fasteners that mount the rack to the frames and the brackets that secure the pannier loops to the rear frame loop. Only other thing was the 3/8” fasteners that mount the rear foot peg brackets to the ‘Z’ plates are supposed to be reused but in my case they were too short but that’s not a major issue.
All in all I’m impressed.
