It is sometimes useful to see an old thread brought back to life despite the fact that we were younger then....:-(

Yes, sometimes it is, as long as there's a good reason for doing so and the poster is aware that the thread is several years old and isn't replying to what they think is a recent post/thread.

Edit: Also a good idea to mention at the beginning that the reply is to an old thread.

Yes, revisiting an old thread with a new angle, new question, new info is good.

But answering an 8-10 year old question…
