I'm sure this has been covered before but sorry, I couldn't find it. I went to start the bike a couple of days ago and the starter failed. The backfire device pins have sheared, I'm guessing because the battery volts were a bit low. Could someone please remind me where I can buy the rod to make my own pins or the spec of the material ( in the UK). Thanks

Hi
First rule: if you have backfire before the Alton, the Alton will not solve the problem
You must use or a Tri Spark or a Pazon EI, they have a start programation
Second rule: don't use the pins provided by Alton, once you are sure that the engine will not backfire any more, you can use 6 white nylon pins

Hi Yves. Have just bought an Alton and am replacing the whole ignition with Pazon, coils, leads etc. Why would you not use the Alton pins? Firstly it would invalidate the warranty, secondly my understanding is that the original pins were poor but the new ones are good.

I have an 850 with Pazon Smartfire ignition system. Had the old style resin unit but Alton replaced it with the nylon pin type, it must have been an early one and I have not had any trouble with it.

Four perfect years now with my Alton, what is the concern with the stock pins? Trispark and always fully charged recommended battery here....

Hi Peter
When I receive my Alton there was only 3 orange pins, they sheared without any backfire, but I have high compression ratio, I never try with 6 Orange pins
Also the first Alton where using a system without pins
