I just sat on it for a minute or two. My feet reach the ground but not flat . I also want to look at the KTM 890 R , but that will be like riding a dirt bike (so tall) for me. Did you mean the Diavel feels a lot lighter than the Norton ? Because the weight you posted seems about the same ?

I’m saying the Diavel 1260S has a advertising weight of 481 dry / 530ish wet.
it’s way heavier than the Norton’s. You can feel it when pushing it.
I’ll have to scale both Norton’s and the Diavel full wet to compare.
The HP / TQ is insane on the Diavel for a sport naked cruiser.
 
I don't use a bottle either. Just clear tubing with a screw in the bottom. Even that is never full.
 
If I have to complain about one thing about the Ducati, it’s the cost of the aftermarket exhaust.
The Termignoni titanium Exhaust is the only available option. For $3000 you get a “muffler”.
If you buy enough Italian bikes, you'll grow to realize that the "Race-Only" Exhaust/ECU provided by the manufacturer is pretty much part of the purchase, as the bikes only realize their intended potential with them. That said, the V4 Streetfighter Akrapovic "Race-Only" exhaust provided by Ducati makes the Diavel exhaust look like a bargain
 
I had 2 Ducs at one stage a SportClassic and a 998. Once the 961 Dominator came it was easy to let the SC go. That thing was a torture rack. Except for the turning radius the Norton is much better in every way. My SC had an expanding fuel tank ,IAC stepper motor and reg/rec failure within the first year of ownership. Several hundred suffered from defective valve guides but mine didn't fall in to that group.
The 998 I still have, has been more or less flawless (one defective crank position sensor) . So yea any bike can give problems. Summertime used to be problematic to get parts as the Italians take a month off production or something like that. I buy Ducati parts from Motowheels.com. Take advantage of the membership, it pays for it self with any high ticket item.
 
Thanks , that is good to know ( 1/3 up the knurl ). That is a 30ml bottle so about 10ml very good ! I wouldn't add any oil until you reach the bottom of the knurl , and don't go past half way its just going to put it in the air box/bottle . Try it and see ! :)
Nice ride out in the heat over the N. Yorks. Moors yesterday, around 90 miles around hills and dales. No probs once you get used to the clutch clatter, not getting any worse though. Checked her over this morning and all is well, emptied the catch bottle, 25ml after 1401 miles, biggest problem is refitting that bottle. Oh, eng. oil at 1/4 up the knurl.

Coincidentally I did the same. Kildale, Danby, Castleton, stopped for a Mr. Whippy at Goathland (for those who don't know, tv's Aidensfield) - then onto Whitby for fish and chips and a natter with other bikers there. Came back along the coast road - exactly 90 miles on my trip meter! Didn't notice any 961's though.

Don't be removing your catch bottle every time you need to empty it.
Buy a turkey meat baster syringe.

1. Pull hose from catch bottle
2. Insert Syringe
3. Extract syringe plunger and oil.
4. Press out the oil from syringe (hopefully into a suitable container)
5. Repeat until oil bottle is empty
6. Replace hose.
 
I like it - gonna get one! You can just imagine some bystander watching you get off your Norton and onto your knees, taking a large hyperdermic needle to the rear of your bike! 961 owner? Perfectly normal!

Still monitoring mine. Oil rests on the top level of the knurled section, some ten months after the mechanic overfilled it. It is (very) slowly passing through to the catch bottle at a rate of a couple of ml per 200km ride. Clearly the bike will be serviced again well before the oil ever gets to the recommended level. The ‘do not overfill’ mantra clearly does’nt apply to my CR.

Will look perfectly normal, if you wear a lab coat and spectacles during the procedure.:p

Castleton to Hutton le hole, dropped by the cabin for refreshments with the family then back Pickering to Sleights, moor road home. Saw a few bikes but no Norton's, don't tend to stop anywhere, I've been practicing social distancing for decades.

But, the bike may be puking the oil into the bottle because the tank is over filled.
That's what was happening to me for a while, until I found a level that stopped the puking, and also maintained a constant level in the tank.
Happily, my turkey baster is now an ornament/conversation starter on my bench.

Yup, that’s what is happening to mine. Slightly overfilled by the mechanic, the bike is ‘bleeding off’ the oversupply at a rate of 2-3ml per ride. I suppose it depends on how much a rider is loosing but if low, I think I would be topping up with fresh oil. Effectively a ‘rolling oil change‘ until the puking problem is resolved. This ain’t no Honda and personally, I love it! You won’t find a turkey baster syringe in a Firblade owners tool kit :) !
 
The less charitable might imply that the 'turkey' baster is an appropriately named tool for use on a Norton 961......... I understand that you can but an official Garner monogrammed alloy CNC machined Norton turkey baster from the factory at £225 plus VAT.

The term turkey baster was an unfortunate one.
I should have referred to it as an excess lubricant extraction syringe - ELES.

I like the idea of a CNC "Tool".
With both metric and imperial graduation.
However, I would have 2 versions, a Commando version, and a Dominator version.
Should come in a zippered leather pouch with either Commando or Dominator hot branded on the outside, with a serial number.
Everyone will want one for only £225 plus VAT.
 
I’d pay at least $500 for that oil overflow reduction device (OORD), especially if the leather pouch was hot branded with gold lettering.

I like the clear tube idea Britfan, I’m going to give that a go and ditch the bottle. Just run the tube down with the two tank breather hoses in the same area. A quick glance at the tube would give an indication of level and the need to drain the tube.
